The Chase fans were furious as they watched two players take the low offer before taking on Anne Hegerty.
During Wednesday’s instalment (November 13) of the ITV programme, Bradley Walsh welcomed Alex, Izzy, Hothan and Iain, who hoped to walk away with some cash.
First up to take on The Governess was Alex. The 31-year-old got off to the perfect start, answering seven questions correctly in the cash builder.
Wanting to play it safe – but not too safe – Alex decided to stick with his original offer of £7,000. Unfortunately for Alex, he failed to answer a question correctly during the head-to-head and Anne caught him with no trouble.
Following Alex was Izzy, who brought £6,000 to the table. The 28-year-old appeared unfazed by Anne’s high offer of £56,000 but was clearly stuck between the other two.
“I don’t want to go low and then have loads of chances,” Izzy told Bradley before Anne interjected: “She wants to go low but she’s afraid of being shamed.”
Four new contestants took on Anne Hegerty
Izzy decided to go for the low offer of £2,000, explaining that she “really wants” to be in the final chase. The decision left viewers at home utterly furious, however, Anne understood Izzy’s thought process having just watched Alex get knocked out.
Although Anne closed the gap between them, Izzy managed to make it through to the final chase. The third player to take on Anne was Hothan, who answered four questions correctly in the cash builder round.
Despite Izzy hinting at regret for taking the low offer and Iain urging her to go high, Hothan said she was going to “play it safe” and went for the low offer of £1,000.
Witnessing two contestants take the low offer was enough for viewers as they took to social media to reveal they were switching off.
“FFS- anymore weeks like this with low offer takers & it’s goodbye from me!” wrote one fan as another declared: “Switched over to Pointless.”
Hothan and Izzy infuriated fans for taking the low offer
A third fumed: “Why do these people bother going on #TheChase if all they’re going to take is the low offer???? Not really worth the stress is it?”
Another agreed: “What is the point in taking the low offer all the time? You’re there to win big money.”
Echoing this, someone else posted: “F**k me, this show really has gone downhill. Everybody seems to be going low nowadays. Really shows you the desperate state our country’s in.”
After Hothan made it back to the final chase, Iain decided to go big and took Anne’s high offer of £87,000. However, his knowledge was no match for The Governess and he was knocked out before he could take the team’s total to £90,000.
Izzy and Hothan answered just nine questions correctly in the final chase, after which Anne caught them with well over a minute remaining.
