Meghan Markle has made a return to Instagram with two posts in just a matter of days – she already has 1.4 million followers.
Meghan Markle launched her new account on New Year’s Day
Meghan Markle made her return to Instagram on New Year’s Day with the launch of her new account after several years away from social media.
She already has an impressive 1.4 million followers on the platform and this marks her first social media post since January 2018.
However, the 43-year-old was left with “no choice” ahead of her latest move, according to a royal commentator.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond has suggested that while Meghan’s return to social media was strategically planned, her influence has diminished since departing from royal duties.
She told The Mirror: “Meghan is good at PR. Her enigmatic post did exactly what she wanted: got everyone talking about what she’s planning next.
“It was simple and clever.”
However, the former royal correspondent noted that Meghan’s current status differs from her royal days.
Bond explained: “She hasn’t broken any records with gaining followers – and she’s not the megastar she was when she was part of the Royal Family — but I’m sure her following will build.”
The expert also described Meghan’s social media comeback as a “shrewd and obvious move,” noting the duchess was likely left with “no choice” but to have her business presence on social platforms.
In January 2018, Meghan deleted her accounts ahead of joining the Royal Family, but now she has an important career announcement as the former royal has revealed her new upcoming series on Netflix.
Meghan shared a video of herself writing “2025” in the sand along a shoreline near her home in Montecito.
The moment was reportedly recorded by Prince Harry who is believed to be the cameraman behind the clip.
Prior to joining the Royal Family, Meghan always had a strong social media presence but this vanished once her life became intertwined with the royals.
Her new @meghan account, which was initially created in June 2022 during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, had undergone at least one username change before settling on its current handle.
The couple still maintains their joint @sussexroyal Instagram account, which boasts over nine million followers.
A day after revealing her new account, Meghan announced her new series, “With Love, Meghan”.
The series is a culinary programme filmed in her home and it will feature celebrity guests.
The show will premiere on Netflixlater this month.
