EDF Victor Wembanyama et Nicolas Batum

French basketball prodigy Victor Wembanyama has just finished his first competition with the French team.

His compatriot Nicolas Batum recently gave his verdict on the Olympic campaign of the San Antonio nugget.

The French team may have failed against Team USA, but it seems to be a postponement for the future.

Victor Wembanyama and his teammates stayed in the game until the last three minutes of money time, all against an American superteam of incredible power.

Since most of its stars will be retired in 2028 for the Los Angeles Olympics, gold will therefore be more than possible.

Of course, it is the Spurs pivot that we will then expect to be the figurehead of this squad.

Unsurprisingly, he should be even stronger in four years than this summer in Paris, when he played his first official competition with the Blues.

A tournament that will have been quite contrasting for him, even if the Alien managed to grab a new all-time record for precocity on the courts of the capital.

Nicolas Batum very positive about Victor Wembanyama’s Olympics
Ultra-dominant in defense, he also finished as the best blocker in the competition, Wemby however sinned by a lot of clumsiness in shooting during the tournament.

Fortunately for him, he had set his sights well in the final against Team USA (26 points) even if it was not enough.

Not enough to disturb his teammate Nicolas Batum however, as the veteran recently explained on the Stephen Brunch show:

“There will always be LeBrons, Kobes or Jordans. But there will never be just one…

It was an introduction, it’s that there he literally presented himself to the world. There, we saw the Victor at the very high level in something where it plays a lot.

What he did with the Mets, what he did with the Spurs, it’s different… Now we’re talking about the Olympics, you’re in the forefront, the whole world is going to watch you in a game that really matters.

He was also introduced to that game so it was a good thing for him and his career, he did very well. What I told him during the games, after the quarters or the semis I don’t remember, I told him that I didn’t care about his 4/17 (shooting), he had been the best defensive player in the entire game and that’s all I want from him.

As long as you’re the best defender in the world, I don’t care if you shoot 25/25, literally. I don’t care if you miss twelve three-pointers in a row.

At one point I told him: “I’m going to yell at you if you refuse the next two. You refuse the next two, then we’re going to have a problem, you and me.” But if you continue to be who you are, that’s it.

And he continued to do that and in the final, he had a great match. and it was just the beginning for him.

Victor Wembanyama is only 20 years old and this was his first Olympic Games, so it’s normal that everything wasn’t perfect.

But even that doesn’t really matter to Nicolas Batum, who believes that the Alien did very well.
