Laurence couldn’t muster the strength to retake the challenge and was seen post-event on the shore, still leveraging the oxygen mask for support. Host Holly Willoughby asked how he was feeling, to which he responded, “I’m fine.”
When asked to elaborate on the ordeal, he said: “I got tangled up under the raft. But luckily [Bear was there], thank you!” It was then suggested that he might require additional medical care before re-engaging in future show contests.
In an emotional confessional, Laurence admitted with tears in his eyes: “I got sort of a bit caught up under the raft, and, uh, I became a very panicky old man. You know, I was just really silly. I kind of y’know …” His voice shook as he continued, “I sort of threw myself at it a bit too hard. But there we go. Live and learn.”
He explained to his fellow contestants later, “Basically, what happened, I got overtired and I got panicked and I got caught up in the raft. And I didn’t master the way that I was feeling so my breathing got worse and worse and worse and worse.”
