Netflix’s new star-studded show, Celebrity Bear Hunt, sparked concerns as Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen faced a traumatising ordeal. he 59 year old interior designer was seen breaking down in tears, while wearing an oxygen mask, as he complained about struggling to breathe.

The programme, which premiered on Wednesday, saw the former Changing Rooms star dragged from the sea by Bear Grylls himself before he receieved medical attention. He later became emotional as he confessed that he thought he had been suffering a heart attack.

The health scare came as Laurence took part in a challenge for the show. The task involved dividing four contestants into two teams.

Laurence teamed up with actor Kola Bokinni, while the opposing team comprised former Spice Girls member Mel B and TV presenter Steph McGovern.

Once ashore, they had to place the bags in a specified area and ignite a flare. The first team to complete the task would be declared winners.

After plunging off the boat, Laurence made his way to his team’s raft, while his teammate swam towards the supply bags. However, upon reaching the raft, Laurence seemed to struggle to hoist himself onto it from the water.

Moments after the incident, he gasped: “I can’t breathe.” Bear immediately swam to his aid, and shortly after, a safety team had to escort Laurence from the water.

Once on land, Laurence was administered an oxygen mask. In an emotional moment, he shared, “I really did think that I was having a heart attack.”

Laurence couldn’t muster the strength to retake the challenge and was seen post-event on the shore, still leveraging the oxygen mask for support. Host Holly Willoughby asked how he was feeling, to which he responded, “I’m fine.”

When asked to elaborate on the ordeal, he said: “I got tangled up under the raft. But luckily [Bear was there], thank you!” It was then suggested that he might require additional medical care before re-engaging in future show contests.

In an emotional confessional, Laurence admitted with tears in his eyes: “I got sort of a bit caught up under the raft, and, uh, I became a very panicky old man. You know, I was just really silly. I kind of y’know …” His voice shook as he continued, “I sort of threw myself at it a bit too hard. But there we go. Live and learn.”

He explained to his fellow contestants later, “Basically, what happened, I got overtired and I got panicked and I got caught up in the raft. And I didn’t master the way that I was feeling so my breathing got worse and worse and worse and worse.”
