ITV News was conducting an interview to highlight the charity Tomorrow’s Women and its campaign to create more safe spaces for women.

Seated on a park bench, they were interviewing Gill Jones about a family night out that ended with a violent brawl after a stranger tried to sexually assault her daughter Beth Fletcher.

However, just moments into their discussion, an unidentified man abruptly appeared and hijacked the interview by choosing to sit between Gill and journalist Anna Youssef.

The uninvited man was informed that they were filming an ITV interview and politely asked to relocate as there were other benches available.

However, the person which ITV decided to anonymise became aggressive and refused to leave.

Gill was reflecting: “He said something, I couldn’t quite hear what he said, raised his hand and went to slap Beth on her bottom which I managed to block.

“I asked him not to do that, he said he was ‘just having a laugh, just having a joke,’ and went to do it again when I blocked him again.

“I asked him not to do that, I was like ‘This is my daughter please don’t do that, in fact don’t touch any other woman like that in the club either, it’s not acceptable,’ and then he went to do it again.”

She added: “At which point the bouncer had come round and asked him to leave and the violence just escalated right up from there. I was quite scary I have to say being trapped.”

ITV interview was interrupted

A voiceover could be heard saying: “This is when a stranger interrupts the interview,” and Gill appeared uncomfortable as the man purposely sat in between them.

She and her daughter stood as the journalist asked: “Sir, we’re just doing this for this charity, can you give us five minutes?

After a dispute, the voiceover continued: “He refuses to leave so we can carry on filming, so for the safety of everyone involved, we leave,” as Beth remarked: “It’s just so ironic.”

Anna stated: “It’s ironic isn’t it, we were doing a piece about safe spaces for women, and we were filming on a park bench in the middle of the day in Birkenhead and we had to move because we didn’t feel safe when that man came up to us and started threatening and intimidating us.”
