Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway was forced to interrupt the show on Wednesday to share some “breaking news” with viewers as 51 people have been killed in Spain floods
Kate Garraway had to interrupt Good Morning Britain on Wednesday to deliver a “breaking news” announcement.
The ITV presenter informed viewers that 51 individuals had died in Valencia, Spain, due to flash floods.
Upon returning to the studio, Kate declared, “Welcome back. We have some breaking news for you.
“It has to do with the situation in Spain that Laura was referencing earlier. At least 51 people have been killed now in flash floods in south-eastern parts of Spain, officials there have just confirmed that.”
She went on to say: “The country has been badly hit by rain and hail storms since Tuesday. Rescue efforts are underway, and the president of the Valencia region said it was impossible to put any exact number on what the final death toll might look like because, at this stage, it is all so uncertain,” reports the Mirror.
Massive rainstorms resulted in muddy waters sweeping through areas from Malaga down to Valencia on its east coast, causing at least 50 fatalities, as reported by emergency teams in the region.
Horrifying photos and videos shared from the impacted regions have depicted several-foot-high rapid waters carrying away cars.
More individuals are feared missing or deceased in the affected parts of the nation. Mayor of Utiel, Ricardo Gabaldon, told RTVE several people have been trapped in their homes.
Emergency services, including police and rescue teams, used helicopters to evacuate individuals from their homes and vehicles. A brigade of approximately 1,000 soldiers from Spain’s army was mobilised to assist with the rescue operations.
Another major news story that took centre stage on GMB today involved a teenager accused of fatally stabbing three young girls in Southport.
Axel Rudakubana is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, facing two distinct charges, one under the Terrorism Act.

Reporting from the court, Jonathan Swain provided an update: “Everybody is aware of the sensitivity surrounding all of this because what happened in Southport provoked and sparked riots around the country during the summer.
“Police insist that the stabbing of those three girls at the dance class was not a terror-related incident, but yet today, the 18-year-old, who is accused of those attacks, appears here at this court on a separate charge.”
Jonathan further clarified that the police had confirmed this as a “terror-related charge.”
