PAINFUL BLOW Caitlin Clark injury update as WNBA star screams in agony on court after going over on ankle in record-breaking outing

Clark delivered her own honest assessment of her reaction to injury

INDIANA Fever fans were left sweating on Monday night when Caitlin Clark screamed in pain after injuring her ankle.

Basketball’s new superstar Clark appeared to roll her ankle after a tangle with Nia Coffey during a WNBA clash between the Fever and Atlanta Dream.

Clark went sprawling to the ground, as trainers rushed onto the court to give her attention and help her to her feet.

There was great concern among Fever fans as Clark spent some time recovering on the bench.

But she did return and finished the night with 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals as the Fever claimed a 84-79 victory.

There was plenty of comment on X about Clark’s injury, particularly during the time she was absent from court.

“That would be tough for viewership for the WNBA if she is out and misses the playoffs,” Clark said.

“Hope she’s ok, always love seeing her play,” another fan said.

“Dang hope she’s okay,” a third fan said.

“Naah she’ll be ok, tough as nails,” a fourth fan posted.

“Reckon it’s ok, she’ll be playing the next game,” a fifth fan said.

And speaking after the game, Clark herself delivered a pretty candid assessment on the way she reacted to her injury.

Pat McAfee argues ‘God told me to stop’ after backlash to his shocking comments about Caitlin Clark on national TV
“I saw the video and I looked really soft,” Clark said. “It wasn’t that bad of a turn, but it hurt.”

It was actually a night when, despite the injury, Clark was again troubling the record books.

She tied the all-time WNBA rookie three-point record with four triples.

The four three-pointers took her to 85 for the season. That tied the WNBA rookie single-season record set by Dream guard Rhyne Howard in 2022.

It’s likely that record will be hers soon, and maybe as soon as Wednesday when the Fever are back in action against the Connecticut Sun.

The Fever are now 14-16 for the season after Monday’s win.

Kelsey Mitchell led the way for Indiana with 29 points and seven rebounds. Aliyah Boston had a double-double of 14 points and eleven boards.

Clark has had a huge impact on women’s basketball, firstly in March Madness with the Iowa Hawkeyes and then with the Fever.

She was controversially left out of the American squad that went to the Paris Olympics and won gold.

But her reaction to that was very classy, saying, “I’m going to be supporting them and cheering them on.

“They’re going to be just fine. They’re going to win gold and dominate.”
