BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt SHUT DOWN BY CO-STAR as he refuses to sing live on AIR!

Charlie Stayt’s attempt at light humour fell flat during the latest episode of BBC Breakfast as his co-star failed to participate

BBC Breakfast star Charlie Stayt failed to receive the result he was looking for as his co-star Hugh Ferris shut down his request for a song.

Charlie, 62, was steering the ship solo on Thursday morning (December 26) as he hosted the Boxing Day programme on his own.

Trying to keep the festive spirit alive, Charlie attempted to bring some light-hearted humour to the show suggesting that his colleague should sing a song.

As Hugh completed his sports segment, he told viewers Beyonce recently performed at the halftime NFL game and Charlie asked Hugh what song he would choose if he were performing karaoke.

Hugh replied: “I think the last song one I did and it was quite a while ago now…” But the star noticed Charlie pick up a mic beside him on the red sofa and quickly put a stop to things.

Hugh sharply said: “Put that microphone down, Charlie, before I even complete the sentence!

“I’ve managed to hack to pieces Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me by Elton John- you’re reaching, I’m not even going to entertain it,” he added.

Trying to get weather presenter Carol Kirkwood on his side, Charlie said: “Carol, you want this to happen don’t you?”

Laughing in agreement, Carol replied enthusiastically: “Oh yes!”

But Hugh still wanted no part of it and said, “What you don’t realise, Charlie, is that I’m closest to the studio’s exit.” However Charlie urged his colleague to lighten up a little as it’s Boxing Day.

Charlie first began his ournalism career in 1995 with ITN. He later joined Five News, covering major events like the 9/11 attacks, before eventually moving to Sky News and then to the BBC.

The broadcaster joined BBC Breakfast in 2008 and regularly hosts the programme from Thursdays-Saturdays alongside co-star, Naga Munchetty.

In addition to this, Charlie has also dabbled in reality TV. The star has hosted programmes such as Jailbreak and Are You Telepathic.

He’s also been a contestant on BBC’s hit quizzing programme The Weakest Link, back in 2022.

Charlie is married to Anne Breckell and the pair share two children.
