Naga Munchetty issued an apology to one BBC Breakfast guest appearing on a video call from New Orleans as 15 left dead after ‘horrific act of violence’

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty issued an apology to one guest live on air after making a mistake.

The presenter was back on the famous red sofa alongside Charlie Stayt on Thursday (January 2) morrning as they woke up the nation with the news that at least 15 people have been killed and 30 left injured in New Orleans after a person intentially drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street during New Year’s celebrations.

The driver has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar and the FBI have said the organisation does not believe Jabbar was “solely responsible” for the attack and asked members of the public for assistance.

The FBI said it is investigating Jabbar’s “potential associations and affiliations” with terroristic organizations. A potential improvised explosive device was in the truck, and other potential IEDs were discovered in the French Quarter, the FBI said.

Naga spoke to eyewitness Scott Nelson, who was inside a nightclub near Bourbon Street when the attack took place, but things didn’t go to plan after the TV star appeared to get confused.

Welcoming Scott to the show via a video link, Naga said: “Scott, hello to you. I know you are not in New Orleans now but you were there. Can you just tell me what you knew as the incident was happening because you was inside a nightclub.”

He replied: “Good Morning, I actually am still in New Orleans. The scene is directly behind me. I was in a nightclub probably 30 metres or so from the scene where the truck crashed and immediately we saw people fleeing the scene and law enforcements running towards it.”

Naga continued: “It’s very clear that you are still shaken and you are still in the city of New Orleans now, my apologies.” Scott went on to share his “frightening” experience and detailed the protocols which were put in place during the incident.

It comes after Naga announced a new career change after 10 years hosting BBC Breakfast. The presenter, 49, took to Instagram to share the news with fans she is releasing a new book, It’s Probably Nothing: Critical Conversations on the Women’s Health Crisis, in April next year.

It follows Naga’s own long and arduous journey getting diagnosed with Adenomyosis, a womb disorder, after three decades of being in agony.

Naga also shares stories from other women, who have faced other challenges within the healthcare system.
