Sally Nugent issued an apology to BBC Breakfast viewers live on air after the programme suffered technical issues
BBC Breakfast was hit with a major technical blunder just minutes into the latest show forcing presenter Sally Nugent to step in and apologise to viewers watching at home.
The 53-year-old host was back on the famous red sofa with co-star Jon Kay on Monday (December 30) and woke up the nation with the latest news headlines.
During a segment on food waste, they went live to reporter Nina Warhurst who was in Booth supermarket in Garstang, Lancashire to find out how leftover items can be reduced.
After explaining that over the festive period there’s going to be over 270,000 tonnes of food waste, Nina began chatting to a store worker about their Too Good To Go scheme, which is a service with a mobile application that connects customers to restaurants and stores that have surplus unsold food.
However, during their conversation, Nina got cut off due to a technical issue. Sally explained to viewers: “I’m really sorry but we appear to have lost our line to Nina there. We will go back to her though later on this morning, just a few little technical problems there.”
Sally Nugent apologised to BBC Breakfast viewers
Sally and Jon went back to Nina about an hour later and the broadcaster managed to get through her segement without any technical issues.
The issue occured just 24 hours after Nina had to quickly intervene when her colleague, reporting live on air, was hit by a coughing fit.
During the show, Nina was discussing the latest headlines from the past few hours, including the tragic news of a plane carrying 181 passengers and crew crashing at an airport in South Korea after returning from Bangkok, Thailand.
Throughout the broadcast, Nina continually connected with BBC News’ South East Asia Correspondent, Jonathan Head, who was reporting live from Bangkok, to bring viewers the latest developments on the tragic incident.
However, while delivering his report, Jonathan was hindered by coughing fits, having to momentarily stop his segment to cough and offering an apology with: “Excuse me.”
Nina quickly offered support as she stepped in with: “Jonathan with the latest from Bangkok, maybe grab some water? Thank you Jonathan for the update!”
