Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts were firmly in Chris McCausland’s corner after what they deemed an ‘unfair’ judgement from the panel during the semi-finals. The comic, who dances alongside pro-Dianne Buswell, was one of the final five duos striving for a spot in the gratefully anticipated Strictly finale on Saturday night (December 7).
Kicking off their bid to secure a place in next weekend’s showdown, they performed a Charleston to ‘When You’re Smiling’ by The Blue Vipers Of Brooklyn, which earned them 33 points from the judges. The pair’s second act of the evening, a Viennese waltz to Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ scored 36 points – concluding with both Chris and Dianne visibly moved to tears.
An emotive Dianne shared her thoughts on why Chris deserves to dance in the forthcoming final of Strictly’s landmark 20th series, stating, “I have taught Chris this whole time without a single visual cue.”
She went on to elaborate, “He’s never been able to watch a dance back to see if he’s done a great job or to look at anything and go, ‘Maybe I can improve on that! ‘”.
Further highlighting his commitment, she said, “He’s never been able to see any of his competitors, see what the competition is like, he’s had none of that yet he’s seen this competition so well because he’s captured the spirit of this show.”
Some dedicated viewers raised their eyebrows at how Chris’ scores stood up against Pete Wicks and his partner Jowita Przystal’s following their initial performances.
Strictly Come Dancing fans were left bemused after judge Shirley Ballas lavished Pete with the ‘Mr Strictly’ title, despite Chris boasting a similar dance prowess, as noted by the Manchester Evening News. Twitter was alight with viewer comments, with one posting, “Chris only having 1 more point than Pete is offensive #strictly.”
Another chimed in, “Please, can we make sure Chris is Mr Strictly? Thanks. #Strictly.”
The scoring sparked further incredulity, as seen in a tweet that declared, “Pete getting the same score as Chris is actually absurd… #Strictly.”
Echoing the sentiment, another fan stressed, “Sorry but the scoring and judging is wild this week, Chris is miles ahead of Pete as a dancer but they’re scoring is the same… A nonsense #Strictly.”
Concern for Chris’s standing was evident from tweets urging others to vote, with one saying, “Worried for Chris this week… everyone, please VOTE! ! ! #strictly.”
Amidst the criticism, one user highlighted Chris’s journey on the show, writing, “If there’s anyone that’s ‘Mr Strictly’ it’s Chris. What he has achieved is nothing short of outstanding. It’s so emotional watching him every week. It’s beautiful #strictly.”
Finally, the judges’ decisions came under fire, with a puzzled viewer asking, “How can Craig criticise Pete as much as that and then give him the same score he gave Chris? And a NINE from Shirley? Make it make sense #Strictly.”
