Chris McCausland, who is the first blind contestant to ever appear on Strictly Come Dancing, has shared the heartbreaking comment he repeats to Dianne Buswell after every show
Strictly Come Dancing’s Chris McCausland, the first blind contestant on the BBC show and now the bookies’ favourite to win the Glitterball trophy, has shared a poignant comment he makes to his partner Dianne Buswell after each round.
The comedian, 47, who has gained a large fanbase due to his close relationship with Dianne and their daring performances, confessed his initial doubts about participating in the show.
Speaking to Heat magazine, Chris said: “No. Every time we get through I say to Dianne ‘I got away with that, didn’t I?” He added: “It’s gone better than I thought it would, because I had no idea whether I’d be able to do it at all, which is partly, which is partly my doubt and partly the fear of doing Strictly. That first episode, to say I was s******* my pants is an understatement.”
A couple of weekends ago, Chris achieved his highest score yet with a touching Waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone, a song from his hometown of Liverpool. This was followed by a Samba to the Bee Gees’ hit Stayin’ Alive for the Halloween special.

However, this routine received mixed reviews from the judges, earning three sevens and a five from Craig Revel Horwood. Despite winning the hearts of viewers with his charm and dancing skills, there are concerns about what might happen if Chris has a bad week.
One social media user penned: “I love Chris, not just his humour and comebacks but he is genuinely a great dancer, I think he’ll make it all the way…the only issue is, if he’s in a dance-off against say, Tasha, it’s still judges vote how can they choose him over her?
They went on to say: “The public would for sure, but the judges if they’re going on technicality? I’d want him in there though 100% already deserves to be in the final in my eyes.”
Another chimed in: “If the public are voting for him so heavily Chris will never have to worry about a dance-off.”
