Good Morning Britain viewers were ‘disgusted’ by comments Adil Ray made about darts ace Luke Littler and said he ‘should be ashamed’. The presenter was accused of ‘fat shaming’ the 17-year-old sports star during Thursday’s instalment of the ITV show.

During a round-up of the latest headlines from across the UK, Luke’s 5-2 defeat over Nathan Aspinall to secure a place in the semi-finals of the World Darts Championship was mentioned. After showing a clip of Luke’s performance, Adil, 50, went on to say something he felt “might not be very popular”.

The presenter said: “I’m a little bit worried about Littler. He’s 17 and he’s turning into the look of a darts player.” He continued: “Look at him! He’s admitting to having pizzas before a match. I’d be a bit worried.”

According to The Express, Kate, 57, then questioned why Adil was concerned for Luke, as he was “so successful”. Adil responded: “He’s going to get more successful and he can keep on doing it but I don’t want him to get too unhealthy.”

Kate joked that Adil should pop over to Luke’s with a carrot and quipped: “See how that goes down.” Adil added: “Just before the final. Here you go, I’ve got a salad for you from Pret.”

However the comments didn’t go down too well with viewers who accused Adil of “fat shaming” the teenager. Taking to social media, one fumed: “Disgusted with Adil Ray, fat shaming a 17-year-old on #GMB this morning!”

A second said: “Adil Ray just casually fat shaming a 17-year-old kid on Good Morning Britain, should be ashamed.” A third wrote: “@GMB your hosts fat shaming Luke Littler, a 17-year-old boy, is unacceptable and unnecessary. Clearly a bitter and unhappy new year for Adil and Kate.”

Another chipped in: “I can’t believe the body shaming by Adil Ray on this morning’s GMB about Luke Littler. This programme will have carried disapproving items on body shaming in the past. Leave the young lad alone. Would he have said that about a woman? I think an apology is in order.”
