Richard Madeley revealed that Good Morning Britain had ‘breaking news’ about Phillip Schofield on Wednesday’s episode.
It comes after reports on Tuesday that Phillip, 62, is set to make his return to television for the first time in 16 months next week.
Talking about the news on Wednesday, GMB host Richard, 68, said: “Still to come, Richard Arnold is going to be here with breaking news on the return to television of Phillip Schofield.”
Later, during Richard Arnold’s segment, the presenter revealed that Phillip had teased a ‘big announcement’ on his Instagram on Tuesday night.
Former This Morning presenter Phillip, 62, posted on his Instagram Story last night (24 September): “Watch this space… 9am [wink emoji].”

Talking about the social media post, as well as a Channel 5 teaser that dropped called Cast Away, which shows a man walking on a desert island beach with one chance to ‘finally tell his story’, the GMB studio shared their thoughts.
The Sun reports that next Monday (September 30) Phillip will star in Cast Away, where he will discuss the turbulent two years he has been away from television. The programme was reportedly filmed in Madagascar over a ten day period. It’s understood viewers will see Phillip fending for himself on the island while he reflects on his past actions and future.
GMB star Richard Arnold said: “Quite the journey for him, I’m sure!” While host Susanna Reid added: “It’s fascinating isn’t it, we haven’t heard very much from him, certainly not professionally, and now it appears he’s been working with Channel 5…”
It comes as a source told The Sun: “This sort of challenge has always appealed to him though and after consulting with friends and family, he decided to go for it. It’s all been top secret, and has been an incredibly quick turnaround in order to keep the news quiet.
“With 10 days to himself, no camera crews or production around, he shot some unbelievably raw footage – some of it makes for tough, emotional viewing. But he wanted a chance to share his story, unedited and honest, and let viewers see another side to him.”
Phillip Schofield teased a big announcement on Tuesday night Phillip announced on May 20, 2023, that he would be stepping down from hosting This Morning with Holly Willoughby, 43, after more than 20 years. Following his exit, he announced he had previously embarked on an “unwise but not illegal affair” with a younger male colleague.
“I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family,” he said at the time. “I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.”
Five months after Phillip stepped away from This Morning, Holly followed suit. In a statement posted to social media, she announced she would no longer be holding court on the sofa after clocking up 14 years of service.
In March, Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were announced as Phillip and Holly’s permanent replacements on the mid-morning magazine programme.
