Richard Madeley was hit with backlash as ITV fans fumed coverage was “insensitive” after he reported on the death of Liam Payne. The Good Morning Britain presenter and his co-star, Kate Garraway, delivered the tragic news on Thursday morning/

Liam, who shot to fame after joining boy band One Direction back in 2010, was just 31-years-old when he fell and sustained “unsurvivable injuries” while on a trip to Argentina.

Reporting on the tragic news, Richard described Liam’s death as “sudden and violent” – much to the horror of fans at home.

The GMB host then linked his own story to Liam’s death as he asked guest and close friend of Liam, Ant Middleton, if he had that same sense about the One Directioner.

Ant replied: “I wouldn’t say things might not turn out well for him but I knew that if he didn’t find something that he loved.”

He added: “There was talk of the boy band getting back together and when there was talk of tha, he lit up. His face lit up. That was really his belonging and, I believe, his safe haven.”

As Richard tried to touch base on every angle of the story, fans at home bashed his reporting style with some claiming that he was being “insensitive”.

Another added: “Fed up of seeing the most two un-sympathetic hosts on #gmb so turned over to sky news who’s showing respect to Liam Payne.”

A third penned: “#GMB Richard Madeley can’t help himself making references to him and George Michael in the sad Liam Payne tributes never misses an opportunity to get himself into a story every day.”
