Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, was among the first to arrive, dressed in a fur-trimmed coat and black turtleneck, walking with Damian Hurley, the son of actress Elizabeth Hurley. Payne’s parents, Geoff and Karen, were later seen walking solemnly beside their son’s coffin.

The singer reportedly fell from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room, sustaining fatal injuries. An investigation concluded that Payne fractured his skull and died instantly.

 Initial reports speculated on the presence of illicit substances, but Buenos Aires authorities clarified that Payne had consumed alcohol, drugs, and an unspecified prescription antidepressant. Police later arrested three individuals suspected of supplying narcotics to Payne.

One Direction’s Heartfelt Tribute

The surviving members of One Direction released a joint statement in the days following Payne’s untimely death. “In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly,” the statement read.
