Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh was left concerned as she asked co-star Kate Garraway how she was feeling, following the death of her husband Derek Draper
Good Morning Britain’s Ranvir Singh took an unexpected pause from the regular news schedule to touch base with her colleague and friend. Normally set to lead a segment, Singh instead chose to check in with Kate Garraway out of concern for her well-being.
During the show, as the conversation steered towards the heartfelt Christmas messages from Prime Minister and King Charles, Ed Balls pointedly remarked: “That’s a very important message about loneliness.”
It was then that Ranvir diverted the show’s usual flow, turning to Kate with a deeply personal enquiry.
Directing her attention to Garraway, who endured the loss of her husband, Derek Draper, earlier in the year, Ranvir gently probed: “Yeah, can I ask you a question, Kate, before I do the news?” She continued, sensitive to Garraway’s emotional state: “What erm… How are you feeling? We all think of you and Derek of course. And this time last year he was still with us.”
Recounting the painful anticipation of facing the festive season without her spouse, Garraway responded, “Yeah, so it’s our first Christmas without him. I’ve been talking to Andi Peters, who lost his mum, and warned me that Christmas is the hardest time.”
She laid bare the heavy emotions surrounding the holiday: admitting, “I think this one will be particularly hard. But I’m lucky that I’ve got family around me and it’s distracting. But I think you do feel grief because that’s the point where you have the memories of previous years and you were lucky enough to still have them over the last four or five years, even though they were very ill.”
