The Chase viewers were not very happy as the celebrity team won a huge sum of £116,000 for charity – based on a wrong answer.

Coronation Sreet actor Tony Maudesley, Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, Olympic trampoline champion Bryony Page, actress Kerry Godliman took on all of the Chasers in a nail-biting Christmas special.

But in one controversial moment, Bradley Walsh asked Armstrong: “What name is given to a pointed hand tool used for making holes in the ground for seeds or young plants?”

The options given were “A: Dibble, B: Nibble or C: Quibble,” to which Alexander eventually went for option A with Dibble. Whilst the answer was given as correct, viewers were left not happy as they pointed out it is actually a “dibber”, not a “dibble”.

One said: “Lee Mack and WILTY taught me that it’s a dibber but okay.”

Another agreed: “It’s actually called a dibber, not a dibble…” and added: “It’s dibber not dibble… ” to which one fan replied: “That’s what I thought as well.”

Gardeners’ World describes it as “an ideal tool for gardening”, explaining a dibber is a long pointed stick that pokes identical holes into the soil to create the perfect place to plant seeds, seedlings, cuttings and small bulbs.

All four of the celebrities made it through to the final, and managed to beat Jenny Ryan, AKA the Vixen with three questions to go, despite her making her way quickly through a number of quick-fire lines from Walsh.

Meanwhile, viewers also pointed out that yet another Christmas episode saw the celebrities win a huge prize, as one said: “Oh Wow! What about that, another Celebrity Christmas special jackpot being won.”

Another added: “Normal shows been harder, but the Christmas special as easy as anything.”

But others were quick to praise Tony for his hard work during the final round, as one said: “@TonyMaudsley1 Well done! Smashed it!”

A second agreed: “Tony smashed it in the final chase.”
