Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? viewers were accused a famous face of ‘cheating’ after they opted to use a phone a friend lifeline on the show.
Viewers of ITV’s Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? were up in arms when a celeb pulled an unexpected move during last Sunday’s Celebrity Special. Jeremy Clarkson was back at the helm, with a fresh crop of celebs looking to raise some serious cash for their chosen good causes.
First up on the hot seat was music maestro Jools Holland, aiming to hit the high notes for Prince’s Trust and Caring Hands. Not far behind were Nina Wadia and ex-rugby star Ugo Monye lining up to take their shot at the cool million quid.
But it was Nina’s strategy that raised eyebrows – the star seemed stumped by a tough question regarding the jail demolition following Nazi Rudolf Hess death.
She ended up calling Chaser Paul Sinha, sparking a reaction from Clarkson himself as he said: “From The Chase? Let me get this straight, you’re actually contemplating, shall I ask the audience or should I ask someone from The Chase?”
After getting fed the question plus the multiple choices, the chaser didn’t skip a beat before nailing it as B, Spandau, reports the Express. But the fans at home were divided, and took to social media platform X with their immediate comments. One fan playfully bashed out: “You can’t ring Paul Sinha, that’s cheating.”
Another joined in adding, “Phoning a chaser on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire that shouldn’t be allowed.” One fan sympathised, stating: “No wonder she’s laughing with a phone a friend called Paul Sinha.” Nina ultimately pocketed £32,000 for her charity JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), after being tripped up by a question about the origin of the phrase ‘there’s method in my madness’ from Shakespeare.
The comedian, known for her roles in Goodness Gracious Me and EastEnders, was torn between Hamlet and Macbeth. She decided to Ask The Audience, who were equally divided. She finally settled on Macbeth as her final answer, but it turned out to be Hamlet, marking the end of her stint on the show.
Fans are eagerly anticipating more Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Celebrity specials from ITV, given the stellar lineup of celebs ready to win big for charity in previous episodes. Before the broadcast, it was suggested that this special would be “the best season yet”. This comes hot on the heels of news that the host of Clarkson’s Farm had a recent health scare, undergoing emergency heart surgery after falling seriously ill on holiday.
In an article for the Sunday Times, Jeremy Clarkson detailed his terrifying ordeal, describing how he suddenly found himself unable to rise from the breakfast table, questioning whether his “limbs were working properly”.
Yet, Jeremy’s health woes were far from over; he found himself battling with simple things like swimming and walking. When he felt a worrying “tightening in his chest” after returning to the UK, an ambulance rushed him to the hospital.
