And then she ended up giving up altogether before heading into the I’m A Celebrity jungle back in 2019.

But the GMB presenter said there was actually a moment on the show that spurred her vape addiction on again, making her ‘instantly addicted.’

Mum-of-two Kate was chatting to Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley on Thursday morning about the upcoming single-use vape ban which will come into play next summer.

Kate admitted to “hating” herself for it, as she told her co-stars: “The last thing I want to do is anyway in sanction [vaping], because I don’t now.

“But my experience was, after Billy was born, I did smoke before and I was craving going back to smoking [but] didn’t want to.

“I thought [vaping] was amazing, because it didn’t smell, at that point you could do it anywhere, it must have been like smoking in the 70s, you didn’t have to stand outside.

“Everybody said it was better for you, and I did feel much better. I got the nicotine hit.”

Kate then switched to chewing gums and sprays instead to satisfy her cravings, before going on I’m A Celeb.

But in 2023, her desire to vape returned, as Kate explained: “I think we had some props in here or something ridiculous, and I picked it up and I was instantly addicted, like beyond anything!

“I couldn’t believe it and it made me realise how, particularly those disposable ones, are so addictive.”

Kate shared that her late husband Derek Draper “hated” smoking, as she went on: “

“I can remember Derek funnily enough saying, when I said, ‘Oh I think this is good,’ because he hated smoking in all forms, he said, ‘It took 200 years to discover tobacco was bad for you, these are going to be bad for you.’

“They’re so easy to do, and they deliver such a hit, so I don’t know that it’s a solution to ban the disposable ones, but they’re everywhere.’”

Kate’s vape confession comes after she chatted to The Sun about her first wedding anniversary without husband Derek.

Kate appeared at this year’s National Television Awards as she and her children Darcey and Billy collected the gong for Derek’s Story, which followed the final year of his life.

It came just a day after Kate marked what would have been her 20th wedding anniversary to the late political adviser.

She said: “I think everyone says the first year is the hardest, I don’t know if that would be the case, but you do have all the milestones that really trigger memories and that one I found personally very difficult.

“Because, whereas Easter, the kids’ birthdays, we’re very sad with him not with us, that would have been made all about the whole family when he was alive, whereas in this instance it felt like a very personal day between him and I.”
