MAFS fans were surprised when Erica and Jordan split

Erica Roberts and Jordan Gayle tied the knot last year, but just a few months later they had split, and she’s now revealed there were too many ‘red flags’ during their brief marriage

Married At First Sight star Erica Roberts star dumped husband Jordan Gayle after admitting she ignored a “red flag” moment that wasn’t aired on TV.

The couple tied the knot last year on the E4 show after meeting each other for the first time on their wedding day, and fans were convinced Erica and Jordan would be the success story of the series. However, just a few months later, the 26-year-old confirmed they had split, and at the time, suggested it was an amicable separation. “This hasn’t been an easy decision for us both as we really wanted to make our relationship work. I truly wish him all the best and there is no bad blood between us,” she wrote on Instagram.

But as the new series of Married At First Sight begins, Erica has shed light on the reasons behind her and Jordan divorcing, and said in a new interview that her ex-husband had numerous “meltdowns”, and she felt more like his “therapist and his mum” than his wife. Erica admitted it was a “long time coming”, and she lost herself trying to look after her then-husband, who “needed a lot from me”. She said the relationship was “not balanced” and it was one fiery argument that made her realise she wanted out.

She recalled organising a surprise trip up to Scotland for Jordan’s 27th birthday, but he “kicked off and went crazy” as the trip meant they were both unable to “come to Sheffield to play ten-pin bowling with his mum.” Erica fumed that she was left feeling guilty as Jordan claimed she had given him “the worst birthday of his life”, but added he had never taken her out for dinner during their relationship.

“So I thought, ‘You know what, I’m tapping out. I actually can’t do this anymore.’ And that was it. I was like, ‘I’m done. I cannot continue this. This is insane behaviour,’” she shared. Erica said there were “warning signs” since day one of their marriage, but it was the last night of their honeymoon in Antigua that prompted her to rethink the relationship.

She recalled Jordan kept interrupting her and refused to allow her to speak, and when it happened on their honeymoon, she decided to confront him. “I said to him, ‘I do feel like you’re kind of dismissing the things I say, and not really listening to me, or you just want to talk about yourself.’ And that led to him having an absolute meltdown,” Erica explained. She claimed his communication skills were “pretty much non-existent at that point”, and even some of her former MAFS co-stars congratulated her for eventually leaving him.

“Everyone was really supportive of me rather than him. They were all like, ‘Well done, you got rid of him. It was a long time coming. This had to happen,” she said. However, it wasn’t all bad blood between Erica and Jordan, as she insisted she “did genuinely, really like him, and I wanted to make it work”, and said her ex-husband had “so many good qualities”.
