BBC Bargain Hunt star suffers huge loss as they admit ‘that’s terrible’

On Wednesday’s instalment of Bargain Hunt, BBC star Christina Trevanion headed to Peterborough.

One Bargain Hunt team suffered a major blow during Wednesday’s show. In the repeated episode, BBC viewers were taken to Peterborough, where they were introduced to the mother and daughter duo, Sunjit and Simran.

With the expert help of Roo Irvine, the pair made their way across Peterborough’s Festival of Antiques with £300 in hand. In the end, they spent £210, leaving Roo £90 to get them one extra mystery item.

Viewers learned the mother and daughter duo had spent their money on an overmantle, a fob chain, and a diamond ring. Simran was confident the walnut overmantle mirror would earn them the most profit, having brought it for £45.

Sadly, that wasn’t the case, as Sunjit quickly found out. When it came to auction, she represented the red team solo as her daughter was unable to attend.

The bidding started at £10, which resulted in a gasp from Roo and Sunjit, who were in disbelief at the starting price. Unfortunately, the bids didn’t increase much, and it ended up selling for £18.

Host Christina Trevanion commented: “£18, Oh my goodness. Someone’s got a bargain.” Unimpressed with the amount, Sunjit replied: “Ah, that’s a big loss!”

However, she remained hopeful that her second item, the watch fob, would be more successful. Ultimately, it sold for £30, the same price Sunjit and her daughter bought it for.

It was time for the Red team’s big spend, and their favourite item, a gorgeous diamond ring, went under the hammer. After spending a whopping £135, it was estimated to fetch up to £150.

When the auctioneer asked for £100 to start, no offers came in, and Sunjit commented: “Oh come on, it’s a diamond ring!”

Instead, it started at £40 and didn’t go up much further. When it was sold for £80, BBC expert Roo covered her face in her hands.

Christina highlighted that it was a £55 loss but detailed that there was one last bit of hope for Roo’s bonus buy. The antique star explained she decided to buy a £5 ring with her £90 budget, which had stones missing.

Before it went to auction, auctioneer Colin Young wasn’t impressed. He said: “£20 to £40 is the estimate. The more I look at it, the more generous I think it is.”

The ring sold for £5, meaning Sunjit didn’t earn any profit from any of her items. Christina explained she ended the show on minus £82, to which she replied: “Oh my god, that’s terrible, isn’t it? That is terrible!”

The BBC host joked she should tell her daughter they earned a bit of a profit, not wanting her to be disheartened by their performance.

Despite her loss, Sunjit was the overall winner of the episode as the blue team finished with minus £126.
