BBC Breakfast halted as Sally Nugent announces devastating breaking news

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent was forced to suddenly pause the popular news programme as she delivered breaking news

BBC Breakfast came to a sudden pause during the latest episode as host Sally Nugent halted the show to share breaking news.

Presenters Sally and Jon were back on the iconic red sofa on Wednesday morning (February 5) delivering the latest news headlines from the UK and other parts of the world.

But the flow of the programme was interrupted as Sally announced that a teenager has now been charged with the murder of 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose who was fatally stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School, Sheffield.

Sally said: “We’re just going to bring you some breaking news that we’ve had in the last few moments, this has come from the crown prosecution service just a moment ago.

“They’ve confirmed that a 15-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Harvery Willgoose, who was 15, who was stabbed at school in Sheffield earlier this week.

Adding to the devastating story, Jon said: “It was Monday afternoon the attack took place. No name of course for the boy that’s been charged because of his age. Just 15, the news has just come into us from the CPS.”

On Monday (February 3) Harvey suffered serious injuries at his school around 12:17pm and sadly died shortly afterwards.

Shortly after the incident South Yorkshire Police said a boy, 15, was arrested and had been charged for Harvey’s murder.

The boy who has been charged is due to appear at Sheffield Youth Court later on today.

Chris Hartley, who works as the deputy chief crown prosecutor for the CPS Yorkshire and Humberside, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that the youth has a right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
