The Repair Shop turned emotional on Wednesday night as one guest brought in a childhood item that held a special place in his heart.
The Repair Shop took an emotional turn once again after one guest shared their moving story behind their childhood items. During today’s (January 22) episode of the BBC hit show, Irwin came into the barn with a well-travelled toy that needed help.
The much-loved stuffed bear named George was given to him in 1962 by his late mum and dad, who were two of the millions of Brits who immigrated to Australia between 1945 and 1982.
Irwin became emotional as he revealed that at three years old, he contracted Polio, and George was by his side on every hospital trip and he had been a companion ever since.
Both Irwin’s parents have since died, and Irwin revealed that his mum always spoke about getting George restored one day. Bear Ladies, Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell, worked together to bring some tender loving care to his beloved bear.
Upon reuniting with the stuffed animal, Irwin was brought to tears as he said: “Wow he’s got eyes.” Picking George up he continued: “Oh, he actually feels much firmer and everything . Oh brilliant. Absolutely fantastic.
The Repair Shop guest was visibly emotional
“You’ve done an absolutely fantastic job. Thank you very, very much and you haven’t changed his character at all. He is still George.”
Opening up about the emotional reason why he wanted to get the bear fixed, he explained: “As you know, Mum always talked about trying to get him fixed.

“And I always promised her that I would. I’ll tell you now, I will have him at mum and dad’s grave for my dad’s birthday, and Mum will be over the moon.”
Julie was moved as she replied: “We love to see the love you have for him. So take him away and enjoy him.” Once Irwin left both Julie and Amanda shared a hug as Julie said: “I’m so happy.” Amanda added: “That was lovely, wasn’t it? Well done you.”
