I’m A Celebrity producer accused of smuggling banned item into jungle for star

When you’re a contestant in the I’m A Celebrity jungle, you have to become extra sneaky about a lot of things, but most importantly, the things you really shouldn’t be doing

When you’re in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Jungle, you have to be strategic about every move you make, especially when those moves are ones you’re not allowed to make.

The much-loved ITV show wrapped its 24th season last night, crowning McFly’s Danny Jones as King of the Jungle, making him the second member of the band to win the honour. But the show is making headlines for another reason after a former contestant revealed she was secretly given an item by a producer in an off-air moment.

The Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts, who competed in the 2012 season of the annual reality series, shared an extra sneaky behind-the-scenes secret during her stint. A rogue I’m A Celebrity producer slipped her a sip of the electrolyte-infused drink Gatorade. However, you won’t catch a glimpse of the moment as it reportedly occurred off-camera.

Ashley, 43, opened up about the situation in a recent interview, admitting the producer, whom she wouldn’t name, had broken a major rule to give her a sip of their drink. Letting fans in on how she made the staff member break protocol, Ashley said it took a while and a lot of “chit-chat” behind the scenes before he broke and gave her the much-needed refreshment.

“That was towards the end, and it was hot. I was like, oh, it was heaven. Absolute heaven,” she told The Sun. “So it’s literally like, what you see is what you get. I mean, yeah, the guy who comes in and changes your battery will not speak to you.” She continued to explain:” I kept trying to break him and make jokes and kind of see if I could get him to have a little chit-chat with me.”

As well as sharing her achievement with the news outlet, Ashley also spoke about the difficulties she experienced in the jungle. She said there were moments when she was “so hungry” and would wait for food only for “kangaroo balls or something” to be delivered to the camp. She said it was a “challenging” but “rewarding” experience

Touching on the infamous shower scenes, in which the celebrities have to strip down to their swimwear and take a bath in the jungle, Ashley said they made her feel “vulnerable” as she never knew what angle the camera was coming from and said she was “intimidated”. Ultimately, though, she said, “You just kind of get on with it”, as there is no other option, and it was better than not showering, especially after challenges where contestants had “fish guts” dumped on them.

The musician’s comments come after this season’s finalists, Coleen Rooney, Reverend Richard Coles, and Danny Jones found out their fate last night, with Danny taking the win. With more than 10 million votes cast, it was a popular final, and Reverend Richard was revealed to take third place, with Coleen in second much to the dismay of fans.

Danny was emotional as he was announced the winner and said: “It feels amazing, I can’t even talk.” He went on to thank fans for their support and joked it felt nice to ‘be liked’. He said: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I gave my all in there, it’s a lovely feeling to be liked. Thank you so much, I appreciate this so much.”
