Grantchester’s much-adored Robson Green has opened up about his tenure on the show as the hit series returns for an enthralling ninth season, complete with major upheavals.

The eagerly anticipated return of the ITV drama teases its audience with a whirlwind of plot twists as we ready ourselves to say goodbye to Tom Brittney, who has captured hearts as the local Vicar Will Davenport. Whilst audiences can still enjoy Brittney’s portrayal as the new episodes roll out, its already public knowledge that he has wrapped up his final scenes.

Spoiler alerts suggest that Brittney’s character, Will, confronts a career-altering opportunity which he finds irresistible, leading to his exit from the show a development sure to leave fans sombre.

What’s more, stalwart character DI Geordie Keating, whom Robson Green has brought to life since 2014, has now cast light on his own prospects within the acclaimed drama amid talks of “itchy feet”.

In a candid PR discussion with journalists, regarding his destiny with the esteemed network, Robson confided: “I never get itchy feet because I’m at a stage in my life where I want to work with people who make me genuinely happy, in front of the lens and behind it.”

He elaborated further, declaring his commitment to the show extends far beyond the allure of “fame” and “awards”. Robson asserted: “I’m not chasing awards. I’m not chasing fame. I’m just being present in a very enjoyable and healthy environment, and that’s what Grantchester is. It’s one of the nicest jobs I have ever done in my career.”

The beloved TV actor has sparked concern among fans with his recent musings on ageing and the quest for a balanced life. While he hasn’t set a date for his departure, Robson has hinted at considering leaving his popular role, reports Cambridgeshire Live.

In a candid chat with Radio Times, the 60-year-old reflected: “I’m in the last third of my life and I thought, ‘I can’t do primetime drama 24/7 at that pace.'”

Robson also confided to the magazine about his recent stint on Grantchester, saying: “I’ve just finished four months on Grantchester, and it’s long days. I love what I do, but I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the outdoors.”

He stopped short of revealing when he would exit but made it clear that his decision would be tied to another key figure’s departure. The star pledged: “I’ll leave when Daisy Coulam [Grantchester writer] leaves. Daisy is the visionary of that show. And the team they’ve assembled provides me with a safety net.”

As ITV’s eagerly awaited drama Grantchester rolls out, it introduces Rishi Nair as Alphy Kotteram, who makes quite the debut on the show.
