Piers Morgan has shared his thoughts about the backlash Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans’ has faced following his exit from the show’s live tour.

The singer, who recently competed in the BBC dance competition, announced his premature departure from the tour after issuing an apology for making offensive remarks.

This took place during a photocall with the Strictly cast, during which he belted out “Go Compare ” and added, “Not too close, Jamie [Borthwick].”

Then, while dancer Janette Manrara posed between them, Wynne referenced a lewd sexual act and said: “Spit roast,” which was reportedly followed by awkward laughter.

In another clip which has circulated online, the opera singer reportedly made a crude joke about head judge Shirley Ballas as he poked fun at his low score compared to Janette’s husband, professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec, and said he had a message to share with her.

After telling fans to talk amongst themselves, he told her: “Shirley has ripped her gusset. Can you fill?” Following his apology and departure from the tour, Piers took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to defend the Strictly star.

The broadcaster stated: “I’d never heard of this guy before his so-called ‘scandal’ broke but are we really going to keep destroying careers over ‘inappropriate’ language?”

Piers questioned: “Was anyone REALLY so offended? All seems so pathetically trivial in a world currently ravaged by war.” After being inundated with backlash, Wynne announced: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.

“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me,” he concluded.

Despite being the centre of his first scandal during the competition, his professional partner, Katya Jones, shared her support for the star.

On the social media post, Katya commented: “Let’s show humanity and consideration. I will miss you my darling boy.” It comes after further allegations against the Welsh stars behaviour and language have been reportedly raise following his axe.

It has been reported that the BBC is investigating into two more claims of “inappropriate” language in a workplace. According to The Sun, it’s claimed concerned were raised about Evans’ choice of words on his BBC Wales radio show and once while filming a new BBC travel show, Wynne & Joanna: All At Sea.

A spokesperson for BBC Wales said: “Whilst we do not comment on individuals, we take any issues that are raised with us seriously and we have robust processes in place to deal with them. We are always clear that any behaviour which falls below the standards expected by the BBC will not be tolerated.”
