Sky News presenter delivers breaking news
Sky News presenter Darren McCaffrey interrupted Monday’s show to share some breaking news about migration across the English Channel in a huge blow to Keir Starmer. McCaffrey announced: “Let’s just bring you up to date with a little bit of breaking news coming to us at Sky, it involves the number of migrants crossing the English channel.
“According to government sources this morning, 592 people arrived yesterday on 11 different boats, that is the highest number of migrants who have managed to cross the English Channel this year and clearly it has been a big political issue, tens of thousands arriving every single year over the last couple of years
“We’ve had a good weekend of weather, that is normally a determinant for people’s ability to cross the Channel but as I say, we have the highest number of arrivals so far this year,” as he informed viewers that Sky would be bringing them updates. This news is sure to be a blow to Starmer, whose government will now be facing more scrutiny on their actions over migration.

Only a few days ago on March 1, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper became the first in five years to travel to the French coast to see how £540m of British taxpayers’ money is being used to tackle people smuggling gangs.
In the first two months of this year, successful crossings were down by 41% in comparison to the same of 2024. However, Starmer and Cooper are sure to be disappointed to hear numbers have skyrocketed again.
This comes after Starmer has been praised for his response to US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky’s heated clash at the White House last week.

Starmer issued a statement to confirm after a summit of European nations to confirm they were confronting a “once-in-a-generation moment for the security of Europe” as he said: “We all need to step up.”
He continued: “In my conversations in recent days, we agreed a group of us will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting, and then discuss that with the US and take it forward together,”
“Even while Russia talks about peace, they are continuing their relentless aggression.
“That is the agenda and we need to agree what steps come out of this meeting to deliver peace through strength for the benefit of all. So, let’s get started.”
