The Love Island star has spoken out for the first time since her split from Sam Thompson

Michael McIntyre opens up on Sam Thompson ‘terrifying’ moment’

Zara, 28, left fans shocked when it emerged she had split from former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner Sam, who has sinice vacated the London home they shared and where the recent segment was filmed.

The Midnight Gameshow, part of the comedian’s popular Saturday night Big Show, nearly went seriously wrong after the couple secured their bedroom door with a lock, unbeknownst to the production crew.

Host Michael was forced to knock, leading to the pair believing they were being burgled. But Zara took the incident in her stride, posting a snippet to her Instagram Stories with live commentary, relishing the memory of what unfolded.

She divulged to her fans: “I am not joking when I say, we thought that it was a burglar, we thought we were being robbed.”

Zara confessed that the filming of the show was “the scariest thing” of her life, especially when Michael eventually burst in to the room after knocking and shouting “housekeeping”, reports the Mirror.

Alongside the comedian, Celebrity SAS’s Jason Fox also joined them in their bedroom, adding pressure on Sam by challenging him to endure questioning about his romance with Zara, an ordeal that left audiences squirming over its “awkward” nature on screen.

Their appearance on the show prompted a mixed response on social media with one posting on X: “Now that Sam and Zara have split up this is absolutely awkward.”

Others asked whether Michael was instrumental in their split, with one posting: “Did Michael break up Sam and Zara?!” Another added: “Well, Michael McIntyre’s big show is awkward to watch considering Sam and Zara have broken up.”

During the show, Michael disclosed a behind-the-scenes moment of doubt, admitting: “They were terrified as I had to knock on the door – but thankfully they then had the time of their lives.”

A source close to the couple told The Sun that at the time of filming, the pair were “happy and in love.” They shared: “Zara and Sam were really happy and in love when they agreed to take part in the Midnight Gameshow.”

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show continues next Saturday at 6.50pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
