Strictly Come Dancing winner Dianne Buswell was emotional as she reflected on a heart-warming Christmas. The Australian dancer has been busy over the festive period since she lifted the glitterball alongside Scouse comedian, Chris McCausland.
The 35-year-old is in a long term relationship with Joe Sugg and the two hosted Christmas at their stunning home in Brighton this year for the first time. Dianne’s family travelled across the world from Australia to enjoy the festive period at their home.
Dianne and Joe have been sharing updates from the gathering on their YouTube channels. However, Dianne was sad as she revealed the family have now returned home.
She took to Instagram today as she shared snaps alongside her two young nieces. Dianne, who is referred to as Dot by close friends and family, shared alongside a tearful: “And just like that they have gone.
“She said if I was going with her I said I can’t, ‘aunty Dot has to clean up and go to work. And then she said toe toe can do it for me. Until next time my beautiful babies. Aunty Dot loves you.”
Dianne’s festive period with the family was the perfect way to unwind after her Strictly triumph. In her Christmas Day vlog she released on YouTube yesterday, Dianne revealed the glitterball trophy was the centre piece of the family’s table at Christmas Dinner.

The dancer’s inspiring story alongside Chris captured the hearts of the nation on their way to winning the contest. Chris is the show’s first ever blind contestant and made history when he won the show.
The comic was always keen to dedicate his achievements to Dianne throughout their journey. In an interview with the ECHO, he explained how he set a target to get through to Blackpool Week so that Dianne’s parents, who are from Australia, could see her live for the first time in years.

He said: “Me and Dianne have really had this pipedream of being here the week after Blackpool because her mum and dad are coming from Australia and they haven’t seen her dance live for eight years.
“If we can get through these next two weeks then we’ve hit our goal of her being able to have that moment. This is nothing without her, she has got the most out of me and I think it will be nice if we’re both able to give something to each other.
“If we can get to that moment then stick a fork in me, I’ll be done. But certainly, I’m hoping to stay in this for as long as possible.” Chris more than exceeded his target as Dianne’s mum and dad were in attendance for last month’s final to see them lift the glitterball.
Viewers were emotional when the camera panned to Dianne’s mum and dad, Rina and Mark, after the winners were announced. Camilla said: “Seeing Dianne’s dad wearing his Chris and Dianne hat with his suit at the end also had me sobbing!!!”
Sarah added: “The fact that Chris and Dianne won in front of Dianne’s mum and dad, after everything her dad went through last year, is just incredible”
Hannah commented: “Dianne’s dad has me in absolute bits. She REALLY deserves this so much. They are both absolutely incredible.” Naomi posted: “Dianne’s dad with his hat IM IN BITS!!!!”

Brooke said: “Dianne’s dad has fully tipped me over the edge” Dianne has previously opened up about her dad’s health battle as he diagnosed with cancer and started chemotherapy last year. In November 2023, she said: “I’m so proud of you dad. First round of chemotherapy today!
“I wish I could be there to hold your hand and support you in person but I do know that I’m making you so proud over here in my concert every week! The Australian nurses and doctors are now very aware of Strictly Come Dancing as my dad won’t stop talking about it you can do this daddy xxx.” Dianne confirmed her dad had finished his chemotherapy treatment in April with an emotional post.
She said: “To my daddy you did it 6 months later and 12 rounds done. I am so so PROUD of you it’s been a tough road but you have always done it with a smile and a thumbs up. I know you were scared and I know it was not easy but you have done it.
“I wish so much I could be there right now and just cuddle you your my hero and you have made me realise we all have so much more strength then we think. And to my beautiful mum who has not left your side and been the best support system ever thank you. Us kids are so lucky to have you both we love you so much.”
