Thierry Henry is the only Premier League player in history to score more than 20 goals and register 20 assists in a single Premier League season. However, this term, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is on track to emulate the Arsenal legend. Salah already has 16 goals and 11 assists to his name this season, and with 21 games left to play, he still has plenty of time to grab yet another record.
Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry are two of the first picks in any Premier League all-time eleven.
The French icon and the Egyptian king have left a lasting impact on their respective clubs, inspiring them to numerous trophies and breaking countless records.
Henry made 258 appearances across two spells with Arsenal, leading The Gunners to two Premier League titles and winning the Golden Boot a record four times.
Similarly, Salah has been on fire since arriving at Anfield in 2017.
The forward helped the Reds win their first Premier League title in 30 years, inspired them to a Champions League triumph in Madrid and has been named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year twice.
However, Henry still holds a record that Salah lacks.
The Frenchman is the only Premier League player ever to score 20+ goals and register 20+ assists in a single season.
Henry’s goal and assist record
Henry set the record during the 2002/03 campaign, ending the season with 24 goals and 20 assists.
He may not have finished the campaign as the division’s top scorer – scooped by the barest of margins by Ruud van Nistelrooy – or even guided Arsenal to the league title, but the achievement will live long in the memory.
Unsurprisingly, he was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year for his efforts and scored one of the goals of the season against Tottenham in November 2002.
Who has come close?
Very few players have even come close to matching his remarkable record in the 22 years since then.
In fact, it was arguably Henry himself who came closest during the 2004/05 campaign.
Chelsea may have stormed to the title that year, but the World Cup winner still stood a class above the rest with an incredible 25 goals and 14 assists.
Andy Cole and Alan Shearer also came close prior to Henry’s efforts in 2002/03.
They both recorded a stunning 34 goals and 13 assists in the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons respectively, albeit in the era when 22 teams competed in the top flight.
Can Salah break the record?
Salah looks dead set on breaking Henry’s record this season.
The Liverpool winger already has 16 goals and 11 assists to his name from just 17 league appearances.
With 21 games still left to play in the league this year, he could be well on his way to matching, or even surpassing, the Arsenal legend.

If he keeps up his current scoring and assisting rate and plays all remaining fixtures, the Egyptian will finish the campaign with 36 goals and 25 assists.
Not only can Salah surpass Henry’s staggering record, the Liverpool star is only three goals away from leapfrogging the Frenchman on the all-time Premier League scoring charts.
Arne Slot’s side are flying high in the league, and Salah looks eager to earn a contract extension, so there is no reason why he cannot.
