Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has confidently asserted that Mohamed Salah would not face the same difficulties as Al-Nassr star Sadio Mane should the Egyptian winger opt to depart Anfield in the future.
Salah, currently in the final year of his contract with the Reds, is making a strong case as one of the top forwards across Europe’s elite leagues this season. The prolific 32-year-old has netted 19 goals and contributed 15 assists in just 25 appearances across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in keeping Liverpool perched atop the Premier League standings.
In an interview with online betting platform Boyle Sports, Hamann offered an insightful perspective on Salah’s future at Liverpool, saying: “Personally, I can’t envision him donning anything other than a Liverpool shirt. I’m certain many teams would be eager to acquire his services. I would suggest giving it a couple of years to see how things unfold because, at his age, anything is possible. However, from the way he has been speaking, it seems he has no intentions of leaving. From my understanding, both Salah and Liverpool are in discussions, and I believe he will remain with the club.”
When quizzed about Mane’s challenges at Bayern Munich, Hamann reflected: “Bayern faced numerous issues, the manager had to exit. In football, circumstances can shift rapidly. You can envision a scenario, and it may not come to fruition. Mane had a strong start, getting on the scoresheet regularly, but I’m uncertain of his happiness there… although he did express multiple times that playing for Bayern was his dream.”
Hamann, who celebrated five trophy wins during his playing tenure at Bayern, concluded: “I don’t attribute it to Mane himself, but rather to the club’s circumstances. Salah will not encounter similar issues given his consistent goal-scoring and fitness. He would be an ideal player for any team.”
After contributing to Liverpool’s trophy haul during the 2021-22 season, Sadio Mane transferred to Bayern Munich for an initial fee of £27.5 million in the summer of 2022, signing a three-year deal with the Bundesliga giants.
Unfortunately, the former Southampton forward struggled to find his stride in Germany, finishing his time at Bayern with only 12 goals and six assists in 38 appearances, including 27 starts.
Following a disappointing 2022-23 campaign, Mane made the move to Al-Nassr in a deal worth up to £35 million in 2023. The right-footed attacker has since shown his quality by scoring 24 goals and providing 16 assists in 69 appearances for the Saudi Pro League side.
