Tommy Walsh was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2022 and underwent surgery to remove the tumour.

He announced in early 2024 that he was receiving advanced NHS treatment after specialists found cancer under his lung. In a fresh update, the BBC host said in June last year he is nearly in remission as the cancer is “slowly shrinking and disappearing” with radiotherapy treatment.

The 68-year-old previously had a breast cancer scare in 2002 after finding two lumps in his chest that were later found to be benign.

The veteran presenter with over 25 years of experience on TV was reportedly replaced on Homes Under The Hammer in 2024.

Tommy has exited the property show with former weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans, 39, stepping in as a new host on the BBC show.

Speaking exclusively to Express Online on behalf of 10Bet, Martin addressed Tommy’s departure and made a candid admission.

“I haven’t seen him since the 20 years party but I’ve always got a lot of time for Tommy,” Martin shared.

“He is a really good guy so I was sorry to hear about his health. He’s a gentle giant and he added greatly to the show and we treasure the time he was on it.”

Tommy joined Homes Under the Hammer in 2021 for season 24 alongside Money for Nothing star Jacqui Joseph.

The TV personality had years of experience in property, having worked as a builder, but he came to prominence through the gardening programme Ground Force, which he presented alongside Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie Dimmock from 1997 to 2002.

He later fronted his own property shows including Tommy Walsh’s Eco House, Flip That House with Tommy Walsh, and Cowboys and Angels.

The expert is believed to have been dropped from the hit BBC show last year and has reportedly already filmed his final episode, whilst his replacement has already stepped in to shoot future instalments.
