Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern have taken the reins of a revamped classic game show, but ITV viewers were left unimpressed just minutes into the new series
ITV viewers were all left saying the same thing over Holly Willoughby’s new TV show, You Bet!
The revamped game show premiered on Saturday evening (December 7) with Holly and Stephen Mulhern – who also host ITV’s Dancing on Ice – at the helm. You Bet! was a popular quiz show in the 1980s and 1990s, hosted by Bruce Forsyth and also Matthew Kelly.
It follows a group of ordinary people taking on epic challenges in a bid to take home some serious cash. The show also features various celebrities, who for each challenge, have to bet if the challengers can do it.
What’s more, famous face on the winning team bags £10,00 for charity, while the losing celeb has to take part in the dreaded forfeit finale.
Holly and Stephen are back hosting a new show
But within minutes of the first You Bet! episode airing, viewers had a lot to say. Rushing to over to X, plenty slammed the hosting line-up, insisting ITV to let other presenters host television shows.
One person said: “Why couldn’t #YouBet on #|TV been presented by some new faces? Why do a few famous #presenters get EVERY show? “They don’t give anyone else a chance… Must be loads of budding presenters waiting for a chance?”
Another viewer agreed: “ITV really need to start expanding their pool of presenters..” Fans of the revived ’80s show are up in arms over the axing of its classic theme tune. One disgruntled viewer declared: “Only came for the old theme tune and they’ve ditched it.” Another expressed their frustration, saying: “Already p*****d off for You Bet having a new theme tune.”
The show scrapped its iconic theme tune
A third was equally miffed, writing: “Not using the original theme, which was an absolute banger, no hosts banter, no introducing the celebs, turned off within the first minute.”
Holly Willoughby conveyed her enthusiasm about joining the programme with the words: “I’m so excited to be part of this iconic game show with the fabulous Stephen Mulhern. I’m looking forward to seeing the astonishing skills on show from the challengers and which of our celebrity panellists can come out on top.”
Stephen Mulhern shared his own eagerness to participate by stating: “I loved You Bet! as a kid, so I’m very excited to be hosting this with the wonderful Holly Willoughby. From the big and spectacular to the unique and unexpected, I can’t wait to see what extraordinary skills the challengers have up their sleeves.”
