ITV You Bet viewers switched off within minutes of the show’s latest episode starting as they issued the same complaint.

The show has returned to TV screens after 27 years, with presenters Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern now the hosts. Tonight they were joined by comedian Rob Beckett, as well as England goalkeeper Mary Earps, Loose Women presenter Judi Love and singer Olly Murs.

But viewers were left raging as they claimed Stephen and Holly had “destroyed the legacy of a classic TV show” with one of the episode’s “insane” challenges. A “Guess The Goat” game involved farmers guessing the identity of their own goats according to images taken featuring their teats – and viewers were left totally bemused.

“Sunday before Christmas and I’m in bed watching farmers guess their goats by their teats….whatever is going on? #youbet,” exclaimed one viewer who took to X. Spotting the “tense” atmosphere in the studio, another quipped: “I can’t believe so much tension and seriousness is being shown to some bloody goat udders! Welcome to British TV.”

Who can become the greatest of all time for this pathetic goat challenge .. how desperate is this challenge @YouBetITV #YouBet?” another demanded to know. Meanwhile a fourth viewer turned their attention to host Holly.

“Holly Willoughby looks at a picture of goat horns and asks: ‘Whose horns do these belong to?’

“Horns that belong to horns? FFS how much does she get paid? #YouBet,” quizzed the confused tweeter.

Meanwhile, another brutally declared of her co-host: “Get Mulhern on to destroy the legacy of any classic tv show! #YouBet.”

“This goat thing on #youbet is really odd behaviour. Don’t know what I expect from animal farmers though,” joked someone else.

Other fans suggested: “That must have been a very strange day at work for the production team that took that photos of the goats! #YouBet.”

Spelling the mood of many viewers, one frustrated tweeter declared in no uncertain terms: “Can’t watch any more of this absolute c**p. I’m away to something else.. anything else!#youbet.”

For those who gave the game show more time, they were then greeted by scenes of a woman “squatting on watermelons to see if she can smash them all”.

Although fellow comeback show Bullseye was met with a more positive response from some, viewers of You Bet this evening mainly just seemed “baffled”.
