Prince George is set to break with a major royal tradition by attending Marlborough College instead of Eton College, it has been revealed.

The Princess of Wales, who will celebrate her 43rd birthday on Thursday, has reportedly put plans in place for all three of her children to attend her former school, Marlborough College.

After months of speculation over which school Kate and William will send their 11-year-old, it is likely that George will soon be joined at the school by Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six.

A source at the Wiltshire school recently told The Mail on Sunday that there had been a focus on which of the school houses could be assigned to George.

With these dotted around the campus and in the nearby town of Marlborough, the college has six all-boys’ houses, six all-girls’ houses and four mixed houses.

According to the Mail, the C1 house has been “earmarked for Prince George for security reasons”.

This comes after it was previously reported that Princess Kate was “against” sending her eldest son away to Eton College.

Eton College has long been attended by many male royals, such as Prince William and Prince Harry.

Although William was the most senior member of the Royal Family to attend Eton College, it was also previously attended by the late Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousins, the Duke of Kent, the Duke of Gloucester and Prince Michael of Kent.

The well-placed insider said: “Parents have been talking about nothing else and discussions have really ramped up in recent weeks but security is obviously a massive consideration.

“Prince George will have to be housed in an ‘in house’ – these are the houses that are around the main quad of the school.”

As for Marlborough, the school’s alumni include poet Siegfried Sassoon, as well as, one of George’s family members – William’s cousin, Princess Eugenie.
