Prince Harry found a particular way to thank his staff before he made a bombshell announcement
Prince Harry once surprised his staff with Christmas gifts just minutes before he made a bombshell announcement, the duke revealed in his memoir.
In Spare, which was released last year, the Duke of Sussex opened up about some of the final moments he shared with his staff as they were preparing to announce their departure from the Royal Family.
Harry wrote that he, his wife Meghan Markle and two senior staff members were deep inside Buckingham Palace on January 8, 2020, preparing a statement for Instagram.
The prince said that despite it being past Christmas, he wanted to share his appreciation with those close to him with two festive gifts.
He claimed he found a Christmas tree near the main stateroom and took two soft corgi ornaments as gifts for the staffers.
The Sussexes quit the Royal Family in 2020
Shortly after, the Sussexes along with the two staffers uploaded their statement on social media, announcing their exit.
The statement read: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
Elsewhere, they said: “We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.
“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”
Since then, the couple have made a number of claims against the royals and their relationship with the Firm remains frosty.
