Ruth Langsford has been giving her fans updates on her 94-year-old mother, Joan, who was hospitalised after fracturing her pelvis following a fall earlier this month

Ruth Langsford has revealed the severe bruising her mother endured after a harsh fall. The Loose Women star, aged 64, has been updating fans on her 94-year-old mother Joan’s condition, who was rushed to hospital earlier this month after fracturing her pelvis due to a fall.

Ruth has been by her mother’s side as she continues her treatment and has been doing her best to aid her recovery.

Over the weekend, Ruth took to Instagram Stories to show fans some of the injuries Joan sustained – sharing a video of her applying cream to a large purple bruise on her head. She captioned the video: “Mum’s got a right shiner after her fall! Trying to soothe it with Arnica cream.”

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Ruth found a silver lining, noting that Joan has an impressive natural hair colour for her age. The TV star remarked: “94 yrs old and hardly a grey hair… I’m hoping I’ve inherited the gene!”

Last weekend, Ruth announced that her mum had suffered a fall, which has disrupted their Christmas plans. She shared in a social media post: “No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas…. She’s had a fall and fractured her pelvis! She’s ok…ish, no surgery required thank goodness but she needs rest and time to heal now. She’s in hospital at the moment but I’m hoping to get her home soon,” reports the Mirror.

“This time last year she fell and broke her hip but recovered well…she’s a very strong woman so I’m sure she’ll recover from this too. Put’s life and what’s important into perspective eh? Happy Christmas!” was the heartfelt message shared by Ruth, which prompted fans and celebrity pals to rally around her with support. Among the first to express their support was Lizzie Cundy, who wrote: “Sending you so much love . Hoping mum will be back dancing very soon .Sending huge hugs my darling.”

Ruth has been keeping her followers updated on Joan’s recovery journey through social media posts.

Earlier in the week, she posted a picture of her mum relaxing in her hospital bed with a newspaper, captioned: “Hospital visit….thank you all so much for your lovely messages and well wishes for my darling mum. She’ll be in hospital for a bit longer yet, but she’s in pretty good spirits considering and I hope she’ll be home for Christmas.”

On Sunday, she shared more footage of her mother watching her favourite 1970s sitcom Butterflies starring Wendy Craig and Geoffrey Palmer, comfortably relaxing in her bed while enjoying the classic comedy on a tablet device.
