Meghan Markle took to her new Instagram account for the third time this year yesterday as she confirmed the sad news that her dog Guy has died.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared a video showing her favourite memories of the beagle, which she adopted from a dog rescue in Canada in 2015.

In the video, Meghan shared a number of never-before-seen videos from throughout her life with the dog, including during her time living in the UK.

Prince Harry appears multiple times in the sweet tribute, with one scene showing him running across the beach with the much-loved beagle, while another shows him hugging the dog on his lap.

Here at Express.co.uk, we have found six things you may have missed from the duchess’ latest Instagram post.

When she adopted the dog

In her latest heartbreaking post, Meghan revealed that she adopted the beagle in 2015 in Canada.

In the caption of the post, the duchess, 43, said that Guy had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live before she formally took ownership of him.

She wrote: “I swooped him up….and fell in love. They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.”

The first photo shown in the video shows the beagle around the time of the adoption looking underweight and frail.

He joined her when she became a royal

Meghan also revealed in the post that she loved the beagle so much she even brought him to the UK with her when she moved in with Prince Harry.

This was previously spoken about by the duchess in her 2017 engagement interview, where she confirmed the beagle was in the UK and settling in well.

The family then took Guy with them back to America when they quit life as senior royals in 2020.

Meghan wrote: “He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.”

The couple used famous vet Noel Fitzpatrick

The Instagram tribute also revealed how Meghan and Harry used vet Noel Fitzpatrick, who became well-known after featuring in The Supervet, despite the fact he was based in Surrey.

The mum-of-two said that while in the UK, Guy underwent various surgeries and treatments following a “terrible accident” shortly before he moved to the UK.

Meghan wrote: “He endured a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the UK which had him undergoing surgeries for several months and unable to leave the clinic. Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it.

“H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end. I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our vets now, and my friends and community: Thank you for loving him so.”

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet make rare appearance

Royal fans may also be surprised to see that both Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet appear in the tribute video on multiple occasions.

In one brief clip, Prince Archie and Prince Harry can be seen looking at some donkeys, with Guy joining the father and son in the sweet moment. Prince Archie, wearing jeans and a jumper, can be seen holding the dog’s lead while the couple’s labrador runs free around them.

A picture is then shared of Meghan Markle and Princess Lilibet enjoying some sunshine on a picnic blanket with Guy watching on.

Prince Archie then appears again towards the end of the video, with his voice being heard as he sits in the back of a car with Meghan and Guy, with Prince Harry at the driving seat. The young prince, five, can be heard worrying about whether the dog will fall, with Meghan then reassuring him he won’t.

The video then ends with Meghan and her children singing “we love you Guy, we do”.

The couple’s other dogs

While the video is focused on paying tribute to the beagle, Meghan and Harry’s other dogs also feature at various points within the video.

In multiple clips, the couple’s rescue beagle named Mamma Mia and their rescue labrador named Pula can be seen alongside Beagle, with one sweet photograph showing all three dogs sat on a picnic blanket with Meghan and Lilibet.

Other parts of the video show Pula sitting in the car with Guy and running into the kitchen with him.

Insight into Californian lifestyle

The sweet tribute has also given an insight into the couple’s life in California, something they have only done very few times before.

As well as various videos and photographs of the beagle relaxing at home, Meghan also shared videos of Guy in the garden of the family’s Montecito mansion.

Other clips also show Guy out and about in the American sunshine, including a moment where he runs across a beach and sits in the back of a car being driven by Prince Harry.
