With Team USA securing this year’s Olympic gold, they’ve now won five straight medals, starting with the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where the legend Kobe Bryant played a key role.
With the next Olympics set to take place in Los Angeles, the team has a chance to clinch a sixth consecutive gold in front of their home crowd. Just imagine how electric the atmosphere would be if Team USA wins gold on their home turf.
Lakers owner Jeanie Buss seems particularly excited about Los Angeles hosting the 2028 Olympics and shared her thoughts in an interview with AM 570 LA Sports.
“You know, because Kobe loved being an Olympian, he relished the honor and I think we really saw Lebron kinda take on that role, carrying the flag and leading team USA, so you know I couldn’t be more proud,” Buss said.
If you know anything about Kobe, it’s how much he loved leadership. The Mamba’s hard work, discipline, and dedication to success are known to inspire many others along the way.
We all remember his performance on the 2008 ‘Redeem Team’ and in the 2012 Olympics, where he went a perfect 36-0 while playing for Team USA.
So when LeBron James stepped into this role, Jeanie Buss couldn’t help but admire how he continued the legacy of the late great Kobe Bryant.
LeBron took on the responsibility of leading Team USA and representing the country, even winning MVP in the 2024 Olympics.
This achievement is another feather in his cap, underscoring how well he has carried on the legacy.
With the Olympics heading to Los Angeles in 2028, let’s take a look at what we can expect from the games.
A car-free Olympics? What to expect from LA 2028
This isn’t the first time Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics. They previously held the games in 1932 and 1984. With LA getting another shot after 40 years, they’re planning to bring some fresh changes to the event.
LA’s mayor, Karen Bass, previously proposed the idea of a ‘car-free’ Olympics for 2028, which raised some eyebrows given LA’s notorious traffic. However, the mayor is confident about the plan, stating.
“We’re a very car-dependent city but it means that if you are going to attend any of the sports venues, you’re going to have to take public transportation,” She also mentioned that LA has been upgrading its transportation system to handle the demands during the Olympics.
On top of that, LA’s Olympics will introduce five new sports: flag football, baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse, and squash. With all these changes, the LA 2028 Olympics are already shaping up to be pretty exciting. What are your thoughts on this?
