“I will definitely have a signature shoe.” Angel Reese had a dream she’s held onto for quite some time.
It looks like that dream is about to come true as Reese, who recently shattered the record for most rebounds in a single WNBA season, is now on the brink of another major milestone in her life after there are rumors about the release from Reebok.
The Sports Business Journal recently tweeted on their X account about a major development on Angel Reese’s Reebok deal.
The tweet read, “🚨 Big news in the #WNBA 🚨 @chicagosky ‘s Angel Reese is set to become the 2nd player in history to get a signature shoe from Reebok, following Rebecca Lobo. (via @FootwearNews ).”
This comes months after her archrival, Caitlin Clark, reportedly secured a major deal with Nike, which includes her line of signature shoes.
Interestingly, the current president of Reebok is NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal who has a close connection with the Sky forward.
Reese has earlier revealed about her first meeting with Shaq. “I love Reebok. Shaq has been amazing to me.
When I first met him, he said, ‘When are you signing to Reebok?’” said Reese last month. While most of the stars including her rival Clark has signed deals with Nike, Reese has chosen to accept Uncle Shaq’s offer.
Well, that’s not the sole reason behind Reese preferring Reebok.
“I wanted to be a priority ’cause I could have signed easily with Nike.
I could’ve signed easily with Jordan. But like everybody doing that. I don’t like doing what everybody do. I like to do the complete opposite.
I’m bringing Reebok back,” stated Reese who wants to pave her own way to success.
Just days before this big announcement, Reese was already turning heads by showcasing a latest Reebok release after almost 10 years.
Angel Reese debuts Reebok’s first basketball shoe in a decade
Last weekend, during the highly anticipated matchup between the Sky and Indiana Fever, Reese made a statement by sporting the Reebok “Engine A.”
This marked the brand’s first official return to basketball footwear since the ZPump Rise debuted back in October 2015.
Set to hit the market in Spring 2025, the “Engine A” offers a fresh take on Reebok’s classic ERS cushioning system.
With a sleek design inspired by the ’90s Mobius line, this high-performance shoe is crafted to elevate athletes’ games to the next level.
However, Angel Reese is not the first player who has a deal with Reebok. In 1997, Rebecca Lobo made history as the first woman’s basketball player to get her own signature shoe with the brand.
She wore the “Lobo” in 1997 and followed it up with the “Lobo II” in 1998 during her initial WNBA seasons.
“Reebok has stood on business about me since day one,” Reese told ESPN. She plans to rock the Reebok Engine A for the rest of the 2024 season.
Angel Reese’s move to Reebok and her upcoming signature shoe are set to make a huge impact. Embracing a legacy of innovation, Reese is poised to shape the future of basketball footwear.
