Angel Reese, who averages a double-double, is showing significant inefficiency in her shooting.
Many believe that this is due to her high number of offensive rebounds, as she is scoring less from her shots.
However, Reese’s supporter, Sheryl Swoopes, does not think so.
Instead, Swoopes came to the fore recently to credit Reese for her exemplary play.
Swoopes was present on the Marquee show on Wednesday when she dished out applause for Angel Reese.
The Hall of Famer looked to be completely taken over by Reese’s exceptional skills and shared words of encouragement for her.
“I am gonna use her word. I wanna see her continue to be a dawg because she is a dawg. You know, here’s a little somebody on Angel. I love the fact that she is just her. Right? And she says she is unapologetically Angel. She plays hard, both ends of the floor, doesn’t matter what the score is. The thing that I think people question: What’s this so much about her game? The fact that she is averaging or almost averaging a double-double is pretty impressive to do from anybody…I love watching her play because she plays hard every game,” Swoopes stated.
Though Reese averages a whopping 13.3 points with 12.9 rebounds per game, according to Swoopes, she has been doing well.
Nonetheless, if her critics are to be taken seriously, then Angel Reese is rebounding her misses which has led to an increase in rebounds.
Reese has an abysmal stat of only 18.2% three-pointers along with 38.4% field goals.
Although Reese has made 141 field goals most of them have come within five feet of the basket, as per Give Me Sport.
In August, Reese’s shooting percentage sank from 50% in July to just 33%.
However, despite such low numbers, Swoopes looks to be a big Reese fan, and this is not the first time that she has praised her.
Sheryl Swoopes praises Angel Reese even after a loss
During the game against Pheonix Mercury, Swoopes had expressed her satisfaction with Reese.
Though the Chicago Sky had lost the game, Swoopes opined that Reese’s 19 points and 20 rebounds in the game were an accomplishment for her. And hence, despite the loss she gave a “shout-out” to Angel Reese.
The 4x WNBA Champion had further added that Reese “has a knack for the basketball,” which has been helping her teammates get more possession. Looks like Swoopes is a big Reese’s fan.
Hopefully, Reese will get over her shooting woes much like she had done in July.
And perhaps, then fans will be able to justify Swoopes’s words for the rebounding star.
And with this, Reese might also propel her team to the playoffs.
