Heat Legend Saw Victor Wembanyama’s Potential Before NBA Draft, Urges Him to Leverage His Gifts Amid Playoff Doubts

“I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in a couple of years.” Victor Wembanyama is coming for blood and he made it clear following his dominant performance in Paris.

While no one is doubting his talent anymore, there are still concerns regarding his impressive performances translating to wins. As the Spurs hope to take a giant leap next season, former Miami Heat star Chris Bosh, who realized Wemby’s potential long before he became a household name, urged the 20-year-old big man to prove the critics wrong.

Addressing Wemby’s ceiling, Bosh made a shocking revelation, “People have been telling me about him since when he was 16-17 years old.”

Although he got drafted to the league last year, the Heat legend had already heard of Victor while he was wreaking havoc in Europe.

And he has high expectations for the young Center, “He’s skilled and he’s length obviously. And what he might be able to do in the future, he’s one of those once-in-a-generation talents. Let’s see what he does with it.”

Maybe, Wembanyama will use this appreciation as motivation as the Spurs look to bounce far above their 14th-seed finish this year. Sure enough, the Spurs have taken a step in the right direction by adding veteran leaders like Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes to guide the young roster.

But insider Kelly Iko does not have high hopes for the team despite those moves, “If we’re evaluating San Antonio’s offseason against the rest of the Western Conference in a vacuum, I’m not sure it moves the needle enough to get them into Play-In conversations.” As great as Wemby was as a rookie, he will not be considered a major threat until the Spurs contend for the playoffs.

So, it will take a special season from the Frenchman to get the job done and clear all doubts.

Paris Olympics experience could help Victor Wembanyama succeed with the Spurs

As Wemby entered the league last year, it took him a bit of getting used to the bright lights and the playing style of the league. Yet, he had a dominant season averaging 21.4 points and double-digit rebounds.

What stood out was his elite defense as he achieved the rare feat of leading the league in blocks as a rookie with 3.6.

But what could elevate him to the next level is his recent Olympics experience in his home country.

While he did not win many games with the Spurs last season, Wemby learned how to play winning basketball with his fellow countrymen and contribute in multiple ways.

Although he didn’t have a huge scoring outburst until the final game, Wemby was a huge presence on both ends of the floor.

And he capped it off with an amazing 26-point performance against Team USA. Moreover, he finally got a taste of victory by defeating some elite teams like Germany and Canada, eventually securing the silver medal.

Sure enough, he will use that winning mindset in the NBA going forward.

With a point guard like Chris Paul by his side who led a non-playoff team like the Suns directly to the finals upon his first year of moving there, he is sure to have a huge impact on Wemby and the team’s productivity.

So, the league better watch out for second-year Victor Wembanyama because he’s going to be a different animal altogether. Do you agree?
