Led again this season by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers are not forgetting to prepare for their future.

And while a rumor linking them to Luka Doncic has just emerged, attracting the Slovenian could only be done in exchange for a big check.

If we had to take stock of the Paris Olympic Games for Team USA, it would most certainly concern LeBron James and his increasingly disconcerting longevity.

Approaching his 40th birthday, the King has just been elected MVP of the tournament and has proven that he still has some left in him.

That said, even if he intends to demonstrate it in the NBA in the coming months, his leaders are already trying to anticipate his future retirement.

The essential conditions for Luka Doncic to land at the Lakers

As he prepares to begin his 22nd season in the league, LeBron himself has admitted that he probably only has one or two years left before retiring from the courts.

Regardless, the Lakers are already tracking his successor as leader and face of the franchise and are reportedly making Luka Doncic the main candidate.

A rumor that would not be so far-fetched according to insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson:

“LeBron asked me to join him, but I told him I didn’t want to play…

Luka Doncic to the Lakers “is fun for a lot of different reasons” “but not impossible,” a well-placed NBA source with ties to both the Lakers and Mavs told me. “For him to go, it would have to be absolute chaos in Dallas.

That would start with them missing the playoffs again, which would be crazy, but not impossible.”

“I also think the Lakers would have to offer him a salary of over half a billion dollars to get him out of Dallas, basically.”

The stars will have to align for the Angelinos’ plan to come to fruition, while Jeanie Buss will have to get her checkbook out to convince the Slovenian.

But Dallas fans refuse to believe that the first condition mentioned above will be met:

The Mavs aren’t going to miss the playoffs, man. Kyrie and Luka are going to stay healthy this season

Contrary to what some might believe, the path leading to Luka Doncic would therefore not be totally far-fetched for the Lakers.

A priori, however, it would take a hell of a combination of circumstances for the star point guard to decide to leave the Mavericks.
