Steph Curry leaves no doubt as to his Warriors future with a dramatic move amid speculation

Curry has spent 15 years with Golden State

Stephen Curry loves the Golden State Warriors — and the Golden State Warriors love Stephen Curry.

The franchise and its star player have changed one another forever; Curry has led the Warriors to four NBA championships since 2015, ending a decades-long barren run of mediocrity.

But as Curry has gotten older — and as the Warriors have started to move on from its championship-winning core — speculation has heated up that Steph would soon say “night night” to Golden State after 15 years together.

Curry’s $60 million extension

The conjecture around Curry ended Thursday, as reports indicated that the Warriors were signing their superstar point guard to a one-year extension worth a mouth-watering $62.6 million.

Curry, already the NBA’s highest-earning player, was locked in to a contract with the Warriors through the 2025/26 season.

But player and team clearly remain comfortable with one another, and Golden State hopes Curry — who lives with his wife Ayesha and their four children in uber-rich Atherton, California — can pave the way for sustainable success after a “golden era” of four championships between 2015 and 2022.

Although the Warriors missed the playoffs last season amid Draymond Green controversy and the uncertain future of Klay Thompson, Curry continued to play at a high level and was named the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year.

The 36-year-old averaged 26.4 points and 5.1 assists per game in leading Golden State to a 46-36 record, although he could not prevent the Warriors’ Play-In Game loss to the in-state rival Sacramento Kings.

Curry and longtime coach Steve Kerr won Olympic gold with Team USA at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris earlier this month, and those two — along with Green — remain the Warriors’ pillars.

But Thompson‘s free agency departure to the Dallas Mavericks is an indicator that change is coming to Golden State.

While the franchise hopes to remain in the title picture after replacing Thompson with sharpshooter Buddy Hield, the Warriors are also focusing on the development of first-round picks Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody to remain a threat into the future.
