Stephen Curry Reflects on Childhood Regret Despite NBA Greatness, Shows the Path to “Superpower” in China

Stephen Curry is having a busy offseason. After shining in the USA jersey during the Paris Olympics, the Warriors leader traveled thousands of miles to make it big on Chinese soil. That’s right. A couple of days ago, Luka Doncic and his peers were also spotted in China promoting the Jordan Brand. As a fierce competitor both on and off the court, Curry couldn’t just watch his rival brand take over the market. Hence, the Dubs star completed his expansion mission and while doing so looked back at his past.

The 4-time NBA champion made the trip all the way to the other side of the globe to open the first Curry Brand store in China. Following this phenomenal achievement, the official page of Under Armour Basketball shared a clip of Curry disclosing the advice that had helped him through his childhood days. “Piece of advice I give to my younger self is probably do not compare yourself to anybody else,” the point guard said. “And it’s easier said than done because, you know, for me, even, like, in high school, I wasn’t highly ranked, and you’re always looking at the guys that are “ahead” of you. But you really have to lean into who you are, what makes you unique, and develop a work ethic around that and a confidence around that.”

Curry further added his regret, “I wish I would have done that even more than I did as a kid just because that’s where your superpower can kinda be born from.” The wise words from the 36-year-old are beneficial for the next generation irrespective of their field.

Curry didn’t have it easy while growing up. He had his own set of struggles and scrutinies because of his relatively short stature. However, he did focus on himself and not the ones around him, which helped him bring out his best version. By following the advice, Curry not only built a glamorous NBA career but also flourished as an entrepreneur.

Stephen Curry’s business move makes waves in China

The streets of China were filled with happy faces and loud cheers as the Golden State Warriors star’s car reached his hotel. Stephen Curry was thrilled to witness the warm gestures of the citizens where he always had a major following. Failing to control his excitement, the point guard shared a clip on Instagram to express his “unreal” emotions.

“Basketball is everywhere, and we want to be everywhere,” Curry revealed his brand’s motto days ago at the National Basketball Players Association. Moreover, he wants people to know what his logo stands for. By expanding his business internationally into a market like China, the 10-time All-Star has shown a glimpse of what he wants to achieve with his brand, with Under Armour backing it.

Curry was joined by Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox who is the brand’s first signature athlete as he launched the world’s first Curry Brand store in a brand-new mall in Chengdu, China. This store is slated to carry all the brand’s products, including their “China Tour” pack. Additionally, another store is set to open in Xian during this tour as well.

When comes to business, Curry appears to be taking inspiration from the basketball greats. Like Michael Jordan, he established his brand while he followed Kobe Bryant‘s China route to connect the business interests of both countries.

A lot of questions await him in the Bay Area once the golden boy returns to the States. With a broken Splash Brother bond, Curry has to carry the franchise mostly by himself as the summer trade hasn’t been a very successful one for the Warriors. But with the wisdom he showed, the Warriors seem sorted, at least as long as Stephen Curry is around.
