The Purple and Gold rumor mills are always working. Among the wildest propositions is the Lakers eyeing Luka Doncic for the future. Robert Horry scoffed at the notion. “He ain’t the best defensive player now,” he said about the Slovenians fit within the Lakers.

Yet, the allure of the club compels fans to stretch their imaginations. Stars and future aspirants will always be tied to the Lake Show. And after Doncic, the prediction is Victor Wembanyama will be their primal target.

On The Big Shot Bob Podcast, as the hosts laughed over the Doncic reports, Brandon Harper investigated the Lakers’ history with such outrageous targets. At first, it was Giannis Antetokounmpo being tied with the club.

Similarly, he believes in the future there will be a time when Wembanyama will be in their vision. The co-host was so confident that he even marked the date. Horry though only laughed at the notion.

“This ain’t happening. This is nothing but a little banter that you always hear anybody that the next star regardless of who they are is always going to be connected to the Lakers. Like you said we talked about it with Giannis a few years ago. Now it’s Luka’s turn. At some point of time down the line, hell it’s going to be Wemby… Give it two, three seasons especially if the Spurs aren’t doing anything or Wemby may not be ‘happy’, you going to see his name connected to the Lakers. All in on Wemby,” he said on the show.

It can’t be denied that the Los Angeles Lakers are regarded as royalty. Scan every decade and the most renowned stars of the era have been with the franchise.

From Jerry West to Kobe Bryant and even LeBron James, the theme makes these fable rumors always have a smidge of possibility within them.

In the case of Victor Wembanyama, he is only a sophomore.

Furthermore, with the San Antonio Spurs, he gets mentorship from arguably one of the greatest coaches Greg Popovich.

Such development and attention to detail will very much augment his superstar potential. However, with that status comes the demands of success.

If the Spurs can’t achieve that, will Wemby want to leave? Not according to a French legend who thinks Wemby and the Spurs are a “perfect” marriage.

Victor Wembanyama has always wanted the Spurs

The outlook on the Spurs in the modern era is disappointing. They haven’t been to the postseason since 2019. Getting out of such a rut took them four years until they finally landed Victor Wembanyama.

The freak center has been heralded as the force that will push San Antonio into contention again.

The franchise has had a long history with international players. Tony Parker, the last French star with the Spurs loved the mingling. In his talks with the 20-year-old, he said Wembanyama always wanted to be a Spur. “He does not care about the pressure and expectation, and I think the Spurs is the perfect place for him. He is in very good hands,” the four-time NBA champion said.

Wembanyama too carries immense respect for the legend. He speaks with reverence about representing the Spurs and also the hardcore methods of Greg Popovich.

Under his intricate vision, he has the best chance to evolve into the generational player the NBA envisions him to be.

Likewise, given his zeal to compete, it’s hard to see Victor Wembanyama leaving the franchise without giving it his all to transform its stature.

Thus far, he seems fixated on growing and carrying his legacy as a Spur.
