Kate Garraway made a glamorous return to the Pride Of Britain Awards last night, marking her first time at the event since the tragic death of her husband Derek Draper.

Stunning Kate Garraway captivated onlookers at the Pride Of Britain Awards, stepping out solo for the first time since the tragic loss of her husband, Derek Draper, who succumbed to Covid-19 complications in January after a harrowing four-year battle that left him hospital-bound.

Good Morning Britain’s beloved presenter and her late husband had openly chronicled their painful journey through two profound documentaries, capturing the severity of Derek’s health struggles. Amidst a backdrop of celebrities and heroes at the touching Monday night gala, Kate’s radiance was a beacon of resilience and grace.

Speaking to the Mirror, Kate opened up about the event, remarking, “It’s always a hugely emotional night. You’re sometimes moved by the stories in a sad way but also by the courage.”

She continued, reflecting on her personal connection: “I’ve been lucky enough to be invited POB throughout the journey of Derek being sick and this is the first one I’ve been to with him not with us and I think there will be an extra thing as he always loved it anyway as a ceremony and a show. It’s wonderful to see how people fight on.”

After the heartbreaking loss of Derek, Kate Garraway temporarily stepped away from her role on Good Morning Britain, taking time to grieve and be with her loved ones. On her emotional comeback, she detailed the challenges faced during the making of ‘Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story’, admitting it was a tough yet vital process to aid comprehension and support for others, reports OK!.

Opening up about her husband Derek Draper’s personal battles, Kate revealed his profound sense of inadequacy and the immense pressure he felt he was to those around him. “One of the biggest frustrations was that he felt like a total failure, he felt like an incredible burden on the carers, on the system, on us and it didn’t matter what we said, he felt that burden, and he wanted to be a contributor,” she confided.

Determined to have a positive impact, Derek saw the documentary ‘Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story’ as an opportunity to make a difference, according to Kate: “Making this documentary [Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story] was his way of saying ‘I’m gonna speak up for the people that have supported me, the family but also those around me and the people within the care system.'”.

Kate closed with a poignant reflection: “It’s wonderful to have the chance to honour him and also honour the millions. I’m sad because I don’t have the chance to care anymore but I felt it would be wrong for me to sort of walk away from the caring campaign that I feel I have a responsibility for.”
