Overshadowed by Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson Joins Angel Reese

Angel Reese and A’ja Wilson both had huge WNBA seasons. But nothing was as grandeur as Caitlin Clark’s. While their runs can certainly get many of us commenting, there was something else on the Las Vegas Aces star’s mind.

It is nothing new that A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese have been at opposing ends with Caitlin Clark. While Reese’s rivalry with the first-overall pick started after the NCAA 2023-24 championship, Wilson took a dig at the ROTY’s followers revealing that she “dread(ed)” Indiana because she did not want negativity to “pop off.” As the W season nears its end, maybe Wilson cannot take her critics off her mind and cherishes her win against them.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Wilson looked to be taking a dig at her haters. “I think we have won over some haters,” Wilson stated. Notably, after the Las Vegas Aces star came forward to hit back at Clark fans, it reminded many of one of the issues that had transpired in the season.

Wilson had played at a jam-packed Indiana stadium where she experienced a major opposition as fans roared for Clark.

Talking about the same, the Aces star stated “That’s something that I’ve really seen this year that I’ve never seen before.

It’s just like, damned if you do, damned if you don’t. And you constantly have to live in that life for four months and over time it’s just, ‘Ugh’. I dreaded being in Indiana, not because it was like the city or nothing, it was just like, I just don’t want no s— to pop off.” And she was not alone.

In an episode of Unapologetically Angel, the LSU-alum stated that Clark fans have been rude and mean to her.

Talking about the loyalist of Indiana Fever, Reese expounded that “sometimes it’s very disrespectful.” However, despite Wilson and Reese overtly expressing their point of view, fans continue to support Clark.

Caitlin Clark’s win eclipses those of A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese

One of the major achievements this season for Wilson and Reese was when they made single-season rebounding records. The Chi-Town Barbie surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ 404 rebounds during a game against the Minnesota Lynx in early September.

Reese, in that game, collected 19 boards and took her tally to 418. By the time, Reese had a season-ending wrist injury she had accumulated 446 rebounds. And the only person to surpass her was Wilson.

While Reese’s season ended on a difficult note, Wilson took her rebounding tally to 451. Thus, she became the athlete with the highest rebounds in a single W season.

In her last regular season game against the Seattle Storm, the MVP hit 7 rebounds. But as was the case, even her unanimous MVP title was overshadowed by Clark.

When Wilson won the MVP race, her fans definitely celebrated. But nothing was as grand as Clark’s ROTY award. At one point in time, the Des Moines-born was even projected as a contender for the MVP award.

When ESPN declared the MVP list and ranked Clark in the sixth place in notable mentions, instead of fans taking note of Wilson’s first spot, started taking jibes against the media company for the No. 22. The point guard ultimately finished fourth in the WNBA MVP race for the season.

Therefore, this might have compelled Wilson to once again comment on Clark’s fans now, and hopefully while healthy competition will continue, the three stars will resolve their personal issues, if any, and their fans will also make sure to respectfully disagree with each other.
