Will Caitlin Clark join Angel Reese in Unrivaled basketball league in offseason? Indiana Fever star’s likely decision revealed.
Rising superstar Caitlin Clark’s first season in professional basketball came to an end on Wednesday as the Indiana Fever suffered a nail-biting 87-81 loss to the Connecticut Sun in Game 2 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. Clark and the Fever crashed out of the playoffs after getting swept 2-0 in the best-of-three-game series.
Following the end of Clark’s season, fans on social media began speculating about when they might see the 22-year-old back on the court. Many are curious about if there’s a possibility of Clark joining the Unrivaled basketball league, set to begin in January 2025.
Clark is expected to take a break from basketball during the offseason and won’t participate in the 3×3 Unrivaled basketball league, which will feature Angel Reese and other WNBA stars.
Renowned sportscaster Ryan Ruocco, who was commentating in Game 2 between the Fever and Sun, revealed that he spoke with Clark about her offseason plans before tip-off.
“She almost definitely will not be playing basketball this offseason. So it is likely that we will not see her play until April,” Ruocco said on air while revealing Clark’s answer.
The former Iowa standout had an intense season, playing a substantial amount of basketball with little rest. Over 324 days, the 22-year-old appeared in 81 games, logging 2,850 minutes on the court, including her time in college basketball.
Caitlin Clark on her offseason plans
Caitlin Clark was asked about her offseason plans after Ryan Ruocco mentioned her intention to step away from basketball during the break.
Clark remained reserved and avoided giving a direct response. However, the Fever star shared that she plans to play golf while staying away from basketball.
“I was focused on beating the Connecticut Sun. I haven’t thought too far down the line. I don’t know what I am gonna do tomorrow,” Clark told reporters.
“I’m gonna play some golf. That’s what I’m gonna do until it becomes too cold in Indiana. I’ll become a professional golfer,” she added.
The 22-year-old had an extraordinary season, spanning from her time at Iowa to her debut in the WNBA playoffs.
Clark’s remarkable year included breaking the NCAA scoring record, being selected as the No. 1 pick by the Indiana Fever, setting viewership and attendance records and securing a $28 million deal with Nike, among other achievements.
